The fuel gauge on my f150 is not accurate tank is empty at about 3/8 mark and is slow to rise anyway to correct this without going in to tank?

You need a scan tool to tell what the computer is "seeing" for fuel level. Then make the determination if the gauge itself is off, or the level sensor is off. Otherwise, it's just a game of darts. For what it's worth, I don't see a lot of Ford fuel level sensor issues. The dashes are somewhat troublesome, but typically for brake warning light or A/C shutdown issues.

My o8 f150 was the sender in the tank. Run out of gas in a small town. It just plain quit. Cranked the wheel to a hard right. Rolled right up to a gas pump, barely. No walking.

About how many miles?

Maybe order a new Motorcraft pump, do a preemptive pump change while you're in there.

Chances are it is the sending unit, or a mechanical problem.

Do your homework, several different tank capacities, and it matters.

You can find out if it is the gauge or the sensor fairly easily. In the vicinity of the fuel tank, there is a connector for the short harness that goes to the top of the tank. If you disconnect that connector, you can sheck the resistance of the sender with a full tank and a nearly empty tank. With a full tank, it should read 160 ohms and with a nearly empty tank, it should go down to about 15 to 20 ohms. You check across the yellow wire with a white stripe and chassis ground.

Check it when it is nearly empty and again after you fill the tank.

You can verify that the gauge reads correctly by connecting a resistor across the same wire in the body side of the connector to ground. 16 ohms should read empty after one full minute and 160 ohms should read full after a full minute. The gauge will not respond immediately because there is an anti-slosh module that keeps the gauge reading steadier.

Part stores sell a product called TecTron on the barcode last part of the part number 67740. IT fix's some of them. The fuel card in the tank might need replaced, The printed circut card in the tank might also have a build up from the type of gasoline you but & is doesn't sense the fuel level, Tectron remove & repairs the card. Fuel card can be expensive but cheaper that a 9H307 pump. Base number for a fuel card is 9a299. I ordered on for a 14 on Friday it was only 63.00 I was surprised[zed because I've seen them for close to 300.. Post the last 8 of the vin I'll get yow u a Part# price..

It's Techron, made by Chevron, its one of the best fuel cleaner additives on the market. Harder to find unless yo know where to look is BG-44k (concentrated version of techron)

If the problem is from fuel gunk on the sender card, techron will clean it up. If it's not from gunk, at least the additive will clean the fuel system up, lol.

Slow to rise? you aren't leaving the key on or engine running while filling up are ya? How slow to rise, and is it from refueling or turning the key on everytime you start?
