If the timing was off by 120 degrees, would it smoke when trying to start it?

If the pump is shooting fuel into the engine, and it is doing it when there is little or no compression pressure, and the valve timing is correct, it will put out massive white diesel mist. Jim

I am getting nothing. Pump has been gone through & rebuilt injectors installed I get a squirt of clear fuel with no foam or bubbles at the injectors so I think I have them bled OK.

Did you pull the pump off with the Mark's lined up.

Some of the Bosch injection pumps only turn at one half of the engine RPM so if installed incorrectly they can be 180* out of time and engine will not start but blows white smoke out the exhaust when cranking with the starter.

No timing window, but I punched 2 marks so they line up again. Shaft of the pump is keyed to fit the part that drives it.

I get no smoke. The pump is not strong enough to crack the injectors or the injectors are stuck or set up too high?
