start and stop a fully loaded standard transmission truck on level ground without using the clutch?

The Semi truck thread reminded me of a driving experience long ago. I expect that tractor Vet can do this, Anyone else??

I agreed to help a friend by driving one of his three trash packer trucks for a few days so that he and his wife could go on vacation. The first day was tough!!! His trucks were R model Macks with not a lot of power and duplex transmissions. I think that they were 5x2. I got used to it pretty quick and had no problem floating the shifts, but the starts and stops got to be hard on my left knee after 200 in one day! The next morning I told his two sons how much I was hurting, and then they taught me how to start and stop without the clutch. Here's how: You put the auxiliary in neutral, put the transmission in 1st, then you tap the throttle and just nudge the auxiliary into low. There is plenty enough slack and the transmission is turning so slowly that it slips in just as nice as can be. The only part that can be tricky is you have to shift the auxiliary into direct very quickly or it will go past the RPM range where it will go and you will have to stop and start over.
