Continuing Cold

Managing to survive this week of below normal cold. Nights of -40F with daytime highs of maybe -15F so I'm not doing anything more than essential chores outside.
nnalert mask keeps my nose from freezing but can't wear my glasses or they fog up. Haven't fixed the fuel leak on the Massey yet so I used the JD 2140 today. It was
ok but the rubber boots on the shift levers were so cold that they broke. I guess they were original and I see new ones are available. Some video of it..

Cold Continues

Rusty we have had 42 below 3 mornings and you just don't get use to that sure will slow things down hang in there spring is coming. Randy

Coldest temp I remember feeding a round bale with a tractor was -26f. We havent had quite as cold here in central NY state as some winters. Recent nighttime lows are around 0f or maybe -2 or -3 f. Some spots to my north have been a bit colder. Not to try and lecture a cold weather pro when I am an amatuer compared to you but here are a couple things to consider. When it was real cold I would put the battery charger on at the same time I plug in block heater, after turning lights on for a minute to make sure battery isnt frozen. I dont have one but I see they make a magnetic heater that you could stick to transmission case and help keep oil thin, another thing to plug in with the block heater. The 2140 started and performed well, I am still a bit surprised you dont use tire chains up there. Good video, thank you for posting.

Long as I have the snow blower on the back for weight there is not much need for more traction. Although this extreme cold does freeze the rubber and hurts traction. The old Massey was having problems earlier this week because of that.
If necessary I can add the second battery to the 2140. They were originally a 2x12 volt battery system but I've been running it on one just to see how it handles it and so far its been pretty acceptable.
Now I have to spend the day trying to thaw a frozen water line.

Well if the earth's magnetic field shifts a little, maybe you will become the north pole, Santa!

Have to wonder if the deep freeze is reaching over to Dawson City and the Gold Rush fields? Then we have to deal with Tony, Parker, Rick, and the boys whining all next year about all the frozen overburden that is tearing up their D-10s and needing to buy more with gold they haven't found yet and how they aren't going to make their 5000 ounce goals and cry all the way to the bank.

I guess in Saskatchewan, front wheel drive cars were slow to catch on. The rubber boots over
the CV joints wouldn't last.

I guess I have the original rubber boots on my 97 Blazer. They seem to do ok but I try to avoid driving it when its this cold too.
Have to say it feels quite a bit nicer out there today. No wind, bright sunshine and all the way up to -12F. This is the first day I didn't have to wear the face mask to protect my nose. Plus my fingers did not lose feeling. Getting used to it or what. I don't know.
