how many, and what brands did they sell?
theres a wide range of ages on here , so it should be interesting!

in a small town, also in daviess co, there was a allis chalmers dealer, who also handled new holland and gehl
how many were in your area when you were younger?

i always enjoyed going with dad and looking at stuff, and getting tractor brochures!

In Valparaiso Indiana, the IH dealer was our Go too dealership. Located on the (then) south side of town, it was named Harvey Shure IH. We had no remembered activity with other dealers, just farm stores of the time. Jim

H.M.Gleason IH and NH;Proffit Exchange AC;Piedmont Tractor JD;McGregor Motors Ford;Henry Gilbert's JD,Miller Tractor MF,Gill Implement AC,Swan at Culpeper the closet Oliver dealer

County seat of about 5000 population 5 miles away from us. I'll start on Main Street. Chrysler, Dodge, DeSoto, Plymouth dealer was also a Massey Harris dealer as well as Dodge trucks of all sizes. Some farmers bought their entire line of equipment from him including cars and trucks. He gave pretty good deals and was a bootleg Cadillac dealer. A real wheeler & dealer. Across the street was J.I. Case. A nasty old coot but he had a following of even nastier old coots. Moving north and slightly off Main street was John Deere which included a blacksmith shop. Going west about a block off Main street was Ford tractor and Dearborn implements that also sold the full line of New Holland equipment. Going further west but still in town was Minneapolis Moline which was also the Nash dealership. On the east end of town was Allis Chalmers and just down the street from them was International Harvester. Oliver was in the next town about 7 miles away from us and included another International Harvester dealer. All of these dealerships were right in town within walking distance from the Main Courthouse Square. All of those buildings have now been converted into restaurants, stores and shops. The only farm equipment dealer is New Holland on the outskirts of town. They also sell Massey Ferguson and Kioti. It's part of a 5 dealer company that I do a good bit of business with but no tractors from them. I'm surrounded by a 14 location John Deere dealership but the closest one to me is about 22 miles.

Here in my home town in Nebraska we had Case, IH, Oliver, Massey Harris, Allis Chalmers, John Deere, Ford, all separate dealers.

Oberlin, Kansas: Nitsch & Nitsch--John Deere; ED Shields: Oliver; Walt Roshong: IH--When he retired Brown Motor got the franchise; Kump Motor Co.: Ford, Anderson & Son: AC and MM; Oberlin Motor Co. Massey Harris; Home Implement: Case. They are all gone now but there is a John Deere dealer in the same location as Nitsch & Nitsch.

I grew up between the towns of New Ulm and Courtland, located along the Minnesota River in Minnesota. The smaller of the two was Courtland, who had a Massey-Ferguson dealer. He sold a number of tractors, but more manure spreaders and balers. The larger town had so many dealers of implements that I may have forgotten some of the smaller ones, but here goes: John Deere was sold by Forsberg and Pengilly, then Pengilly only, followed by Potter Implement, which then became part of a huge regional dealer, and quit here. IH was sold by a hardware store called Fesenmaier Bros. It was bought out and moved to an intersection south of town, became embroiled in a price-fixing scheme and is now no longer in business. Another hardware store on main street known as Wagner hardware sold New Idea. They sold a lot of corn pickers. Oliver was sold on the north end of town by Biebl Bros. Allis Chalmers was handled by two men named Kral and Lamecker, then bought out by Bill Gafford, who moved it out near the IH dealer. He sold out to a man named Grams, and when he quit AC no longer was in town. To get AC service or parts we have dealers in nearby Redwood Falls, Lafayette and Smith Mills. Case was represented by a man named Clauss, who also sold Chevy and Buick cars, but in another building. Probably one of our busiest people in the business was a man named Marvin Peterson, who sold Ford and New Holland during the war years and the Ford N days. He traveled a lot and sold to many people from out of the area. Some of these people also sold some short-line products such as Gehl and Minnesota Ind., the prison products.

Growing up in the '60s and '70s we had a JD in county and nearby Danville, KY had a JD, Whitehouse-Humphrey MF, Allis, and later Kubota plus Dodge, Chrysler, and Plymouth, Horn Ford. Stanford had Saufley IH. The end of the tobacco program left one JD and one NH/Kubota. Who knows what will be left in 10 years.

Within 30 miles of our farm . 1 JD dealer 2 AC dealers 1 Case dealer 2 IH dealers 3 MF dealers 1 Cockshutt/White Farm Equipment dealer 1 Ford dealer. The various dealers carried short lines like NH NI Keewanee Alide Dion Badger Farm King , just about everything you could want was handy. And for the most part still is if the company still exist.

As for dealerships around here they were EVERYWHERE Just pick your flavor . In town here we had I H and Oliver , five miles east we had M M and a Massey dealer all most across the steer/ road from each other then another five ya had Ford and Case and inbetween ya had John Deer up the road to the north of the Massey dealer . North of my town ya had a A C Oliver and Case dealers to the west another john Deere dealer , south of me ya had another I H , Oliver and Deere dealers . It seamed that no matter where you were you were no more the 10-12 miles from a dealer . Now most are gone and the ones left keep changing hands and going down hill . They have become Catalogue stores . You need something now it ain't happening the will order it and you may get it in three of four days , they do not have one person that knows anything or how to dig to find what you need . ALL the OLD people are GONE that knew that OH wait that part Number changed and ya use this now .Now ya get they don't make that anymore and maybe you should think about getting a NEW piece of equipment . Point's oh you mean PLOW points but what is a condenser used for on a plow Getting like walking into and Auto ZONE now .

We had 2 John Deere dealers near us, now only 1 in Rogers (MN) though there is one west of Howard Lake which is getting to the 30 mile mark, an International dealer was also in Rogers, Massey Ferguson was in Buffalo, now Case-IH and New Holland on edge of Buffalo, Long Lake Ford which is now gone. New Idea was in Waconia. We now have Kubota just north of Loretto.
All of the feed mills and elevators within 20 miles are gone also. (probably closer to 30 miles).

We had a dealer in our town that sold IH and other farm equipment and also Pontiacs. I bought a new Pontiac from him just out of high school. When it came in he charged me less than we agreed on. I questioned him about it and he told me it cost him less so he passed it on to me. We always bought tractor and equipment parts from him until Daddy sold the farm. Real honest man to deal with,

When I was a boy in the early 70’s in my home town of Delhi N.Y. the John Deere dealer was Delhi Farm equipment. Next town was Hobart with the Oliver dealer PVW. Franklin had a Massey Ferguson dealer Ray Tillley and Son . Oneonta had 2 dealers Lane way was the John Deere dealer and Oneonta Tractor was the Allis Chalmers dealer. That’s all I remember.

Conneaut Fuel &Grain IHC , Wallbridge JD kellogsvile ,Dudas Case iAlbion ,Wwhill ihc Ashtabula,Robinson ,ihc Girard ,Bortnicks bushnel AC ,mm Robinson Thompson, Welker Oliver Geneva, Donhomer Ford Geneva

Loren's dealership was nearly 100 miles away from me so I only know what he has said here. My recollection is his family had it from 1930 until 1986 shortly after the Case IH merger. They must have made the first cut after the merger but there were a few pushed out shortly afterward from 1986-1991. Since the Case column got messed up the first time (I don't know how to edit here if possible) I will try it again.

Case : Phelps Farm Service until 1976.
O'Meal Tractor until 1977.
Monroe Tractor 1951-current. Expansion during the 1970's onward.
SC Hansen until 2016.
Dinsmore Diesel until 1976. A few dealers got chopped off of the first post. I hope my day starts getting better.

Somehow Coryn got pushed down into the Case list. They were MM, picked up Oliver around 1973 then transitioned to White in 1975.

JD : JP Halpin after Turnbull until the early 1970's then Hall Equipment until 1982.

When a was a kid in the 80s southern mn mankato area, Arnolds implement was in janesville sold IH. And also Smith mills by janesville had AC. Even though I was IH kid Smith mill had a pedal tractor to ride so that was my favorite to go with dad. My M was bought in Cleveland mn, a hardware store I think.

Waaay before I was born I'm guessing there was a John Deere Dealer in my town. On the turnpike near a church, there's a place that seems like something was sold there. I think the name might be Whitters. I found some promo of the 4020's. I can't find the picture of the pamphlet. The current John Deere is 8 minutes away and they mostly deal in lawn care, repairs for larger equipment go across state. There was a plow dealer in the center of town, but that was before the 1940's.

When I was a kid in the late 50's our marginal farming county had two aggressive IH dealers, an aggressive AC/NH/NI dealer, a MF dealer, an Oliver dealer, a Ford dealer, and a Case livestock jockey/dealer. The JD dealer lost the contract in 1957 and switched to Ford. The Massey Harris dealer lost out to the Ferguson dealer. The closest MM dealer was just over the county line. The other Case dealer went out in 1954 with an alcohol problem. The only dealer left in the county now is the former AC/NH dealer who just lost the NH parts contract and they are near retirement. It's a different world now.

Lewis county Mo,its about 30 miles N to S and about the same E to W. two JD dealers,0ne IH dealer, two Massey Ferguson dealers, one AC dealer. All of them are gone in the 80s. They were all in a 15 mile radius.

New Ulm, MN "Whitey" Clauss Case Chevy, Buick, GMC trucks followed by Griebel Implement, home of the dual exhaust 1030's from 1958-68. He also had a branch in Sanford for a few years. Our Gleaner M2 came from the Redwood Falls AC dealer. Small world.

I remember the town close to me had Case, Allis Chalmers, Ford, New Holland, IH, Massey Ferguson, JD all in the same town. Sadly enough, not one exists today. 30 plus years ago, they were all busy. Kow Farmer 🐂👩‍🌾

In south central Mich. there was every major brand. With in 35 miles there was more Oliver and International than other brands. When I was a little kid I remember A Silver King dealer in my home town.

Pawnee County KS:

Larned: Roth Equip - Case; Knupp Equip. Oliver-White; Young Equip. John Deere. - all closed.

Burdett: DeLaney John Deere and unknown Massey-Harris. DeLaney still open.

I forgot WALTON Farm Supply for IH and River Valley Ford too! Isn’t the old saying the Mind is the first to go!

IH was king of the road in Monmouth County, central New Jersey in the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's. They had a very strong dealer network here. There was one weak John Deere dealer in Marlboro. There was also MF, Ford and Oliver. MF & Ford were never a big contenders but the potato growers in Mercer County, - north and south, liked Olivers, - seems mainly for their good cultivators and local dealers, as I remember. Eventually IH was fading by the late 1970's, the IH dealer went bust and my uncle shifted over to John Deere by 1976 because he thought they had a more integrated design and would be more reliable. New Jersey is now the black hole of equipment dealers but there is now still a lot of specialized agriculture requiring unusual equipment in our densely populated state.

I'm almost 50. My home town didn't have any left when I was little. Back in the old days their was the FE Gates Garage Ford/Fordson closed in the 30's. Westerburg Exchange, the JI Case dealer was the last to close in 1956. BW ROE, International Harvester moved to Norton KS in 1939. Later closed in the mid 80's. And the South Garage was John Deere closed in 41 or 42 due to the war.

When I was little 14 miles to the east was John Deere, IH, and Massey. They are all gone now. 30 miles north was Ford, IH, Allis, Massey, Case, John Deere. Today just CaseIh and John Deere are left.

Going west was John Deere 10 miles and Massey at 15 miles. Both gone.

Going south at least 35 miles was John Deere, and Ih. Only John Deere is left.

Carroll co. Il had Mf dealer in Lanark also Ford Minney Mo New Holland Gehl Kewanee.
Mt Carroll had Ollie AC New Holland New Idea and John Deere dealer. Chadwick had Case New Idea and Chevrolet under one roof they sold lots of trucks to local milk haulers that went to Kraft cheese in Milledgeville. Milledgeville had Ih and John Deere dealer. Maybe an Ac dealer.
Shannon had a Case New Holland. There might have been a Minnie Mo dealer in Savanna.

The main dealer was Schiffler.
cvphoto76748.png

That line was precluded by Theisen. There was Lux- JD, Neiss & Bothien-AC, and at one point a Ford dealer which was short lived, and a Gambles Store where that line could be obtained.
Down the road was Freeport Inplement, MH/ MF, which is still there and Funk- MM.
cvphoto76753.png

Mankato in the 50's/60's. Teows Mayer-IH,, Cotkusky and Jones-Case,, Pierse Myers Imp.-Oliver,, Mankato Imp.-JD. I can't remember the name but there was MM down by the tracks on Poplar st. Equity warehouse had Lindsay and Minnesota,, Judson Imp had Massy.

When I was only fifteen I got to work at our IH dealer. Rode my bike there each day. One day Hubert wanted me to take a right hand drive IH Scout pulling a little tilt deck trailer to pick up a Cub cadet for repair. I told him I did not have a drivers license yet. He said don't worry about that, his uncle was the sheriff. I made it ok! IH was big there because the canning factory used all IH. They had a bunch of 2ME pickers and would mount them on any farmers M Farmall and they picked sweet corn for the factory. They sold a lot Scouts and Binder pickups. Later I worked at the Oliver dealer and they took on CASE about the time the 70 series started. I got the Oliver clock when the new White came. It is in my shop running now. Southern Indiana dealers

Hello onefarmer,

Years ago I stopped in St Johns and seen the Allis dealer. Had the signs, few tractors out was nice retro dealership. When through St Johns last summer and it looked closed. No Allis sign, one tractor and looked like they were moving out. Any word on what happened? I live in SE Michigan I go up north every year or two.

Being born in 1981, late 1980s/90s We had in SE Michigan John Deere dealers in Tecumseh and Adrian, Case IH Adrian, John Deere dealer in Morenci, Ford dealer in Saline, Dexter had JD dealer south of Ann Arbor has Kubota dealer. Lyons and Metamora OH had JD dealers.

Today: Deere dealers still in Tecumseh and Metamora, both were former family owned dealerships. Tecumseh one sold out in 2009 Metamora in 2019. Adrian Deere dealer gone 2015 or 2016 man retired when to that auction. Lyons Oh dealer closed 1998 my old B came from their new in 1945. Dexter dealer still open got out of Deere 2018 sell Simplicity and Kubota. Adrian CASE IH dealer there renamed twice also do Kubota they used to do Agco Allis Bobcat and Woods. Morenci dealer closed sometime in 1990s and Ford dealer closed around 2000. Hudson has a New Holland dealer opened within last 10 years. Ann Arbor dealer still there they were a former IH and Allis dealer now Kubota and AGCO Massey Ferguson. Manchester had a CASE IH dealer closed 2005ish was car repair more recently they sell tractors and tractor parts. My Dad once told me most towns in our area had IH dealers in every town back in the day. Dundee IH dealer closed long ago now is a NAPA dealer.

I remember when I was young the Syracuse Sunday paper had a lot of classified ads and that included ads from farm equipment dealers. I remember seeing Don Howard's ads and always wanted to check the place out. Wasnt he also a New Idea and NH dealer too?

Skagit County, Washington

Bert Robinsons Hardware, Then Smiley's, Now Farmers Equipment- IH
Vans Equipment, Ferguson, Jack Haggerty later sold Massey Ferguson
Hamburg Iron Works, Allis Chalmers
Vaux Tractor, then Olsens, then Brimm- Ford. In the 60s Vaux went to Fordson Majors.
Johnson Motors, Oliver.
Barnett Implement, John Deere, a few years ago Washington Implement bought them out, and now Pape'.
Straub Farm Equipment had Case.

He had nearly everything which was quite a feat. No joke. He had JD, IH, AC, MH, MF, Ford, and NH but at different locations and at different times. I'm too young to know how it all played out. Coryn's were not even 2 miles away and had MM plus NI and Gehl so Howard did not have those brands but did have Oliver industrial but not agricultural. Word was that Don Howard was connected with some very shady people. Yep, I kind of miss the newspaper ads. A fair amount were in the classifieds versus an 1/8 or quarter page feature.

Being 75 now, I can remember many of the dealers of this same area. Bergstrom's in Buffalo originally a Ford dealer, became Massey Ferguson, Scharbers in Rogers survived the depression years by selling local "cooked" corn out of the back room, now bought out by some mega dealer group, still has tractors but mostly lawn care equipment. Heinen's IH in Rogers also had a dry goods store upstairs, now an antique store. O'Shanausey (sp?) owned the Ford dealership in Long Lake. Fortin Hdwr in Hamel had the AC dealership. Treptau had the Oliver dealership in Corcoran. Welter's in Buffalo and St Michael had the IH dealerships. There was also an AC dealer in Buffalo. I was told that someone sold Minneapolis Moline in the Champlin area, but have yet to confirm that. Much of this same area has become suburbia and hobby farms.

Hebron. NE used to have a IH, Deere, Massey, and Allis dealer, all in separate buildings. In Geneva, NE they had a Ford and IH dealer, not sure what else they had.
In Hebron, the only two that survived were the IH which merged with Case, the Deere dealer built a new building. The Allis dealer burned to the ground in the mid 80s, was never rebuilt.
As far as car dealers go, Hebron had a Ford and two GM dealers. Only the Ford remains. Last time we were there. All that keeps the Ford dealer going is a school bus contract. DOUG

The above 2 posts refer to area of western Hennepin Co in Minnesota. The mentioned Scharber's dealership was a multi generation John Deere dealership. Minneapolis is in eastern Hennepin county and has a long history of farm machinery being produced, probably Minneapolis Moline being the largest farm equipment production employer.

Buffalo MN is in Wright County.

Bill that was the Allis Chalmers dealer. They sold Same tractors too. I forgot it was Hardy Hansen part of the building was still standing up on East street. Oneonta has Casinovia equipment selling John Deere, Sharon Springs garage selling Kubota Eklunds selling Massey Ferguson Dave Macarthy sells Mahindra. River Valley sells New Holland. Franklin has the Case IH dealer Whites farm supply.

This building housed the John Deere dealer for many years.
cvphoto76809.jpg

Buiding on the corner housed the Massey Harris dealer. Also Chrysler products.
cvphoto76810.jpg

Aldrich Farm Equipment was in Chapin NY, IH dealer. Located on Route 21
about as far northwest of Don Howard's as Coryn's was southeast. Burke's
Hardware was IH dealer in Conquest. Salerno was AC dealer near Seneca Falls.
Main and Pinckney are still in Auburn, AC to AGCO, now NH. Pease was Oliver dealer
in Gorham,NY.

Hanover PA,1970,s. Sheets Bros, Oliver and NH. Melvin Sheaffer, IH. Saltzgivers, Ford. Stermers,JD. Not really sure if the JD dealers name is correct, do remember all four dealers started with a S. Believe Finchs out of Maryland bought them out. All of them were within city limits.

I will do the best I can -there were a lot of smaller dealers from the 1930-1950's that came and went that I have heard about but wont try to include since it was before my time.
Shanahan Tractor and implement- JD,Gehl, Long, Leyland -LaFayette NY. Ryan Ford-Lafayette NY, There was also an IH dealer here in LaFayette that was gone before my time.
N. Palladino and Sons- Oliver and White (home of Empire Farm days for several years and hopefully again this year)
Craner Ford- Ford, New Idea, Owatonna, Bolens Flanagans- AC, Simplicity- both from Jamesville NY
Bobbett Implement - JD , Skaneateles NY . Dewey Northrup -Case, NH - Tully NY . Mabie Brothers -MM , MF Kirkville NY.
Syracuse Farm Supply - Oliver , Reliable Farm Suupply, IH, NH , both in Syracuse NY . Nightengales Feed - Massey Harris, Marcellus NY
R.C.Church -AC. Melvins- JD both from Baldwinsville NY. Deveau Ford- Syracuse and Weedsport NY.Frank Tuller- Belarus, Cicero NY.
Cain Tractor and Implement- Ford , Charlie Alexander-JD, J C Lucas -IH, all Cortland NY. Cook Implement- AC, NH- DeRuyter NY.
J.C. Lucas - IH, Cazenovia Equipment-Cazenovia NY. Chittenango Farm Supply - AC - Chittenango NY. I also know of a JD dealer in E. Syracuse and a MF dealer in Syracuse and a MH -MF dealer (Veihl?) in Liverpool NY but dont have any names for them. At one time MF, JD and White all maintained a parts warehouse in Syracuse NY. Of all I listed only 5 are still around in some form in the farm equipment business.

In the early 50's we had a Allis Chalmers dealer and a J I Case dealer east of the town square. Our Farmers Coop sold Coop's and had a JD dealer both on the town square. Massey Harris dealer was south of town a mile. Remember as a boy being in all of them in the early 50's. In the middle 60's JD and IH built new building two mile north of town and the old JD dealer become Massey Ferguson dealer. A Oliver dealer come in in the late 60's. In 80's all were gone except IH and JD north of town.

Well, I spent about 15 minutes composing a response and when I finished there was a site problem and it disappeared so will try again, with some editing. Two towns, one the county seat, one next county south 15 miles both had several farm dealerships.
Some I remember were: John Deere, which we most frequented, MM, AC, Ford, Case, IHC, Oliver, MH. There is also a very small town only 5 miles from us that had a MM dealership and they sold lots of tractors, mostly LP. I think it closed in the early 70's. The earliest memories of Dad making purchases were; a Case thresher (new) in the early 40's, a JD tool bar (chisel), in the mid 1950's, and a JD model 55 combine in 1950. The last thing I remember was a new JD 730 diesel tractor in 1959, and a used JD 830 diesel in 1967.

Lets see Within the county mostly in Owosso and Corunna we had Allis Chalmers which sold NI,Gehl,Killbros,Homlite and maybe NH at one time. Can't remember now. Case/MF dealer had a couple short lines also and can't remember what they are now. White/Oliver dealer was just that I believe. Deere was pretty much just Deere and then there were the IH dealers. Had a local not just sure how it worked dealer that closed was a farmer and sold tractors and probably more. Then there was the other one on the county line sold a full line of Ih and was a MM dealer before that. He's still there with the full Line and some other short lines too. Is also the Kubota dealer. Other dealers were 20 miles west were Allis IH NH,and can't remember what all else they had. mnorth 15 miles was Allis&Oliver now Agco with Sunflower. Northwest there was Oliver.NI,and a few short lines. We had in town several Car dealers of all brands and a few more of some. Had at one time about 4or 5 Dodge,Chrysler or Plymouth dealers in the Owosso Corunna area they had one or the other of that line. Along with the GM Ford and AMC which had the IH scout also.

I think we had most of the major companies represented even in small town Sask. with population 500 or less. John Deere, Case, Cockshutt, IHC, Massey Harris/Ferguson, Minneapolis, Allis, Ford. The Case dealer also sold Chrysler products. And we had a Ford/Monarch dealer in town to compete with the IH trucks sold by the IH dealer. Nearly forgot, the Case dealer also sold Oliver as well as a host of other short line farm machinery.

I spent my first 31 years in the town of Sidney. I remember visiting the Unadilla dealership with my grandfather as a young lad. The Afton dealership was around in the late 1970s. My older neighbors told me about Trout Creek. I questioned them why John Deere why dominated our locality. Joe Lane was our neighbor up the hill from us.

Are you trying to think of Mabie Bros? I don't think you mentioned them. Everybody must have been in or around Syracuse. Used to go to the AC and NH depots in Liverpool, right next to one another.

We live between two small towns, Hardinsburg to the west had Butler & Hook - Ford/NH, Wright Implement - John Deere, Carman Implement - Massey Ferguson, to the east was Irvington with Tobin's Implement - Allis Chalmers and Coles Implement - IH.

Butler & Hook changed hands a few times and is now Hobdy, Dye & Read - NH and Kubota
Wright's - JD now owns 15+ stores in KY and In
All the rest are gone

Pete I remember DR Chambers and son , Globe silo company. Unadilla Silo co. York modern equipment . My oldest son was born on Martin Brook road. Did some work up to Ferry’s Mansion a few years ago.

Home town of Harpursville, NY had a long time Allis Chalmers/New Holland/New Idea dealer into the 80s. Dad did a ton of business on NH and NI, only Allis he bought was unloading wagons. Also a JD dealer until it was sold and moved 6 miles north to Afton. Bainbridge had an IH dealer that sold Dad the 656 Hi utility that is out in my granary. Deposit and Binghamton also had IH dealers when I was little.

I mentioned Mabie Brothers. They have just been bought out by Java Farm Supply. I basically tried to list most of the Onondaga County dealers, along with some Madison and Cortland County dealers that adjoined Onondaga County and had lots of customers in this area . I forgot about the NH parts depot, didnt know AC had one in Syracuse. I have a friend who used to pick up parts at the MF parts depot, and I have picked up parts at the Oliver/White parts depot myself.

You must be close to our old neighborhood, we lived in Wallace and Bath, my gramps owned Cohocton Valley Garage, IH tractors n trucks, sold out in the early 60's around when the 06 series came out. The new partners BK'd out around 72, leaving Bath Truck and Tractor for IH. There was also a Ford dealership in Bath, Jones Ford, went out of business around 70. A newer JD dealership then was John Walsh. There was an AC dealership around, but I don't remember where, a couple friends had new 190XTs. IH was definitely the 800lb gorilla around there. I remember when one of the larger potato farmers bought a pair of 1206 Turbos, with duals and MFWD, to replace the CAT D4s pulling the 4-row potato planters. Had them parked in formation right out by the highway to show off- gawd, they were beautiful! Gramps had a satellite lime pile in Kanona, as well as one in Prattsburg and another in Savona, in addition to the home stockpile in Wallace. My uncle was head of PR for Pleasant Valley Wine Co. in Hammondsport
