CUB pto turns opposite ( counterclockwise) is this true?? Need answer soon as sale is today looking at a cub for sale. Not able to see the tractor due to distance.

there use to be a gearbox you could buy to put over pto output shaft that made it turn clockwise.

Thank you so much. Seems I was told long ago that pto is engine speed. Is this also true? Reason I ask
is starting older tractors by connecting cub pto. I am planning on making devise to reverse tractor pto
however this cub may sell cheap. Again thank you for fast response,

It is true that the Cub PTO runs at engine speed. Think of it basically as just an extension of the transmission input shaft.

We learned this many years ago when we decided to use the cub to fill a water tank for setting tobacco. Had always used a water pump on the pto of the old ford. Pump would not prime, then we noticed it was pushing when we poured water in instead of pulling. Swapped hoses and away we went. Came back in a few minutes and tank was overflowing then realized it ran faster too. No better teacher than experience!

The Cub's minimum PTO speed is roughly the same as the rated PTO speed for most older tractors (i.e. 540 RPM). You'll be trying to drive the tractor's engine at maximum RPM using the Cub's absolute lowest possible power output.
It would be relatively simple to make a chain drive reduction of perhaps 3:1 or more to slow down the Cub, multiply the torque the engine is producing, and potentially give it the leverage it needs to turn the tractor's engine over at a much lower RPM.

Found my old Larson-Swanstrom Co book from the 1970's. HubCity special PTO adapter #02-20-01101 was design for cub tractors. Reverse direction and reduce rpm's to standard 540 PTO. Provided 1 3/8" 6-spline output. Gearcase was oil filled. Shipping wt was 23 lbs. LIST $81.95.
