No idea but a whole lot. The man that taught a lot of the actors to shoot, Arvo ojala, said he was the slowest he ever taught. Jerry Lewis was the fastest and Sammy Davis jr a close second.the is an opening outtake where Arvo shoots before James clears leather.

During the 20-year span of CBS’s  Gunsmoke series, the count ranges from 138 men and seven women to 303 people. If you add in the ones U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon capped in the made-for-TV movies, the total is 407.
Funny

That's good trivia right there. I purchased a rifle in .280 Ackley while out in CA years ago. It came with an Arvo Ojala custom sling. I figured the sling was worth almost half what the rifle was! He made some fine holsters over the years before his passing.

I geathered from granddad and other old timmers, lawmen pistol whipped alot but shot very few. They said local lawmen were out for personal gain more than public protection. Had it not been for Texas Rangers, granddad said Texas would have been run by crooked lawmen. They claimed gunfights between people amounted to loud swearing, threats and warning shots. Occasionally warning shots hit someone and the shooter was charged with a crime.
I watch Gunsmoke now and look for actors that later became famous. Personally,I think Milburn Stone and Ken Curtis were better actors than Arness. If they weren't better actors, whoever wrote their lines did a good job and they delivered them well.

Copied from an online site:

"According to a fan website of Gunsmoke, Matt Dillon killed 303 people with additional kills in the TV movies making the total 407."

I notice a lot of women's dresses on Gunsmoke appear to zipper up the back, or elsewhere.

Zippers didn't come into common usage until the 1920's.

(quoted from post at 14:12:45 02/05/21) Wondering how many men Matt has killed?? Of course all of them needed killing LOL
read somewhere that Mannix was the most violent character on television.

Come on Guys........Ms.Amanda Blake...was the real hero...:)

Wilson Back in 1845 in the Catskills mountains the Anti rent war took the life of Under sheriff Osman Steele. His famous quote was “Lead can’t penetrate Steele”. He was wrong and my great great granddad and others were arrested and charged with murder at 14 years old. Found a great article on it and didn’t know about my relatives involvement until recently.

Funny you mentioned the rifle man. I watch a few episodes every night on Pluto, it has it own channel. The show is the reason I have so many lever guns.

In the first season Miss Kitty did not have a mole, last month I watched the first episode of the first season ,she did not have a mole

Too bad the world isn’t like the old westerns good always wins the Liar always gets caught . In real life it’s exactly the opposite

Back when those shows were filmed you couldn't make out the zipper on TV for the poor picture quality.

Just like the sci-fi show sets look really hokey in HD.

Speaking of the rifleman, out of curiosity I looked up the name of the town in the show, Lordsburg, as I was thinking it was supposedly taking place in N.M., I looked up Lordsburg and it is a small town NW of El Paso, and looks like west of Las Cruces. About Gunsmoke; always impressed by all the mountains, deep canyons with roaring rivers near Dodge City.

Another thing I've wondered- how many guys accidentally got slugged with those roundhouse haymakers. Had to happen sometimes.

Hmmmm SV ..... some might argue that even nowadays the liar always gets caught, and if not caught then something else.

Miss Kitty died at 60 years of age in '89, went through four husbands and a few boyfriends I Imagine. She was still a hero though like you say. Took care of Matt on his days off and Chester when he was having a bad day.
Miss Kitty ....

Speaking of the Rifleman....here's a link to everyone he shot. Carnage!! He killed the same guy 2 or 3 times in different episodes. Oh Why, Oh Why did he have to kill Claude Akins??? (grin)
The Rifleman

They claim they never showed them kissing, i never seen it, but she did kiss a old friend when he came to town, and i seen that!

Yup he did, I believe he played golf today. Things though certainly have been settled since his sojourn south to Florida. Now if he only stayed there playing golf, everyone would be better off, especially those real dedicated members of the GOP.

u got that right! nowadays these government people just resign once caught. nobody is capable of making a logical decision or scared to, due to loosing their job. this world has gone to pot as willie nelson says.

Well, of course not but the Keystone project has been pumping oil south for 10 years now, were you aware of that? There were four phases of it already working when this last one was put on the shelf. The current Keystone XL "expansion" was never signed, sealed and delivered for sure to start with. Yet our own provincial government (yes, right wing as the GOP) decided to gamble $1.5 Billion of taxpayer money on it moving along (because DT was going to be re-elected) and they stupidly put shovels in the ground, even bought the pipe to get it done. Keystone WL would have happened EASILY had the Don behaved himself and not been such an arrogant fool. He and he alone is responsible for what happened in November. The nnalert simply sat back and watched the self destruction process.

In the early days of Gunsmoke on tv, good old two channel, black and white, I was young and innocent enough to believe that guys were actually getting shot for real. I was pretty young. Nowadays I don't even believe "reality tv". :)

It's no surprise he killed a lot. After all he was the arm of the law. What I find amazing is how many the Cartwrights of Bonanza had to kill. They were ranchers. The few Cattle farmers around me hardly ever have to kill someone.

Sure funny how the last four years you say the Russians hacked the election. Now when your guy does hack it and There’s proof you say it can’t be hacked ? What do you guys smoke ?

Ummmm, I don't remember saying that actually. But whatever, now there is actual proof? Sort of like the missing shoe box with all the millions of ballots. The proof has gone poof somehow. Look at it this way though SV, things are a lot more civilized now at least as one positive outcome and the Don's handicap will hopefully improve. By the way, Old replied to one of my posts in another thread, he broke his own rule that rascal.

Plowhand ..... good question ...... maybe they did but I think it was during a cold snap and it was just to keep warm. Chester was in there too just to make sure nothing inappropriate happened on the set.

One of my favorites was when the Cartwrights were having a gun fight in town. Hoss was laying behind a water trough which was getting shot with holes and water running out. Hoss sticks his head underneath one and starts drinking the water. Then he says: "A man gets mighty thirsty during a gunfight." Then he went back to shooting.

Now with the high resolution all the ladies have makeup caked on their faces that looks so smooth. Then you see their neck area and it is like wrinkle city. Then in a closeup you can count the number of pores or hairs on a person's skin. Clearly not to flattering.

When they went from film to video tape that really changed how things look. Still like the old films done in Technicolor with that lower resolution. Modern westerns just aren't the same using video tape.

Matt Dillon killed a man in the late 50's.and was still shooting at him about 3 months ago.killed him graveyard dead both times.
