I wish carhartt had not cheapened thier zippers

I have been wearing carharrt coats for 25 years. Used to get 3-4 years outta one before it was wore out. And the zipper never was the issue. The last two coats, the zippers broke within the first year. Toms wife replaced one zipper, but I broke that one, too. The rest of the coat is still in good shape. I sure miss being able to zip my coat.

Things I think about at 4am while moving snow in a open skid steer when it is 2 degrees out... with a 20mph crosswind.

The last Carhartt I bought has this great big clumsy double zipper in it, like the coveralls I used to wear. What were they thinking? Every time I buy a Carhartt something has changed, and this was the last straw. When I was in NC a few years ago, [over estimating the nice weather] I found a Levi's hooded brown duck cloth zipper coat which is perfect. I wish I could find another.

I've given up on Carhart. Their pants are constantly tearing out in the back, making them almost disposable. And their coats are over-rated as well. I've switched to Walls and Old Mill from Menards.
Cheaper, better construction. Pants I've been getting from Dickies.

I agree and what has
happend to the price of
their stocking caps from
7.99 to 19.99 over night
must be because it's in
fashion now.

I refuse to buy anything with the Carhart name on them. They cheapened their clothes up to the point that Walmarts brands are better made. I used to buy all my jeans from Duluth Trading. They stopped selling
jeans and now carry nothing but stretch pants. I'm not a pregnant woman and don't need stretch pants. So now I'm on the lookout for decent jeans, preferably carpenter style.

I have been wearing the Carhartt X06 Artic line of coveralls for a long time I have 2 pair so one can get washed once in a while.

Right at year 7 the zippers on the legs gave out on both pair.

Bought new ones this year and so far no problems.

Just for clarity.
You said the factory zipper and the replacement zipper both broke, any chance you are trying to pull it up over something that is maybe a little bigger than it was a few years ago?

The trouble with Carharrt clothing - and
many other products, is places like these
tractor forums.
We come here to complain about poor quality
which does no good at all except to find
others to commiserate with.
If people would just write an email to the
company it would get their attention.
It took about 20 seconds to find Carharrt's
contact info.

Kansas4010, I've been wearing Wrangler Riggs carpenter jeans.

So far I like them, they are made of heavier denim than regular jeans, hold up well.

Best deal I have found is order direct from Wrangler. Never found them in a store.

Determined, The girth issue might be real, but the zipper quality is also very real. They used to have much heavier zippers in them. The pulls used to be over an inch long, the mechanism used to be much bigger, and the teeth used to have a lot more meat.

Ultra dog, I did send an email awhile ago. I got the we received you message email, and nothing more. I guess I will lodge my complaints with thier no longer getting my money department.

I replaced sliders , took number off slider of ykk ,bought two on eBay and saved 400 , But ! that worked for me ,worth a try I thought . Since it’s usally
just the slider that’s worn out,.

Brother, I am in your camp! I felt a local dealership had treated me very poorly so I wrote a 2 page letter to Deere. I expected nothing but thought the catharsis was worth it. Ten days later I got a response, apology, and compensation. Direct contact works and letters work best.

Yeap, the slider is the first to thing to go,But what doesn't work for me is the jackets that arnn't lined, they wont slide over top of my shirt,i wont buy one that isn't lined, no matter what brand!!!!

Check out Magellan jeans from academy outdoors.they fit like Levi’s but are heavier denim and last way longer.and at just 15 bucks a pair compared to 50 for the Levi’s! If you wear Levi’s try a pair you will not be disappointed

I have a Carhartt jacket that is 21 years old and I have wore through the pockets and the sleeves are frayed, but the zipper has
held up.
Incidentally, it was Made in the USA.

I like Carhartt clothes, but the jeans and carpenter pants do not fit me right.

I wear Key mostly and also Dickies and Wrangler. My bibs and jackets and coats are Key.

Presently have two carrhart coats, the heavier version with the hood. One I have had for over 10 years and worn daily in the
winter. It is so worn out both sleeve cuffs are just plum ragged, but the rest of the coat is still pretty good, the zipper still
works like new and the longer you wear them the more comfortable they get. The second is about 5 years old and only gets worn when
going to town or an auction or such but it still isn't "worn in" and is kinda stiff and bulky. I tried a Bern once and it didn't
last long and the zipper broke. Also have the carrhart insulated overalls which I like. About work jeans; I only buy wrangler boot
cut as they fit great, wear good and only cost about 1/3 what levis and some others. Everyone has their preferences.

No, the trouble with Carhartt clothing is the other brands that sell similar clothing for lower prices.

People won't pay the extra for Carhartt so they have no other choice but to cheapen up their products to make them price competitive.

I have an Academy not to far away. Never considered looking for jeans there. I have to look next time I'm through that way.

I wont buy carhartt. The quality is terrible any more. The last few products I bought from them either prematurely failed or had factory defects. I used to love their products but something happened with the quality. The last product that I bought for them was quilted coveralls, I got them during a sale but it wasn't cold enough to use them for awhile. When I got them out I noticed 1 leg was inches shorter than the other. I emailed carhartt and they didn't care. They said I could mail them to them at my cost. Luckily I bought them from a decent store that accepted them as a return. Seems as carhartt either does not care for their customers or doesnt stand behind their products. Before the coveralls I bought an expensive "waterproof " jacket. It was waterproof for a couple weeks before the gortex-like membrane came off in sheets. So, I have had enough of giving those jokers my money. Quality went down, price went up. There are better brands of ranch wear these days.

I used to wear Wrangler Riggs before I started wearing Duluth jeans. Stores around me stopped carrying them. I didn't even think to look at their website.

Used to be I thought they warranted the zippers. I never sent one in. I wonder if it was true and if they still do ?

Ask around there are many seamstresses that make a good living repairing clothing in their home . None of them charge enough/ I usually give them a 20% tip.

when the zippers on my carhart 'died',I bought some snaps at the hardware store. The snaps outlast the rest of the coat.

(quoted from post at 09:36:30 02/05/21) All China construction for last several years.

The poor quality has nothing to do with where they are made.
It is up to Carhartt to specify and buy the quaility they want to sell.

Same goes for any other product being made and sold by anyone anywhere.

(quoted from post at 09:36:30 02/05/21) All China construction for last several years.

False.
Go to their website and see for yourself.
Some is outsourced from overseas.
Lots is still made here.
Lots by union workers.
I doubt the union would let lies be told on carhartts website.

Good point 007 ...... years back a friend of mine owned and ran a very successful machine shop. He said that the Chinese will build you as good a lathe or milling machine as any on the planet ...... BUT you're gonna pay for it. Just tell them what you want and they'll deliver.

I don't care who makes it. If China makes it or union workers make it- if its junk, it's still junk. I bought a ranch style jacket from a company called dri-duck and it has been of great quality and it was half the price.

Our local Costal Farm & Ranch store has Wrangler with the option of heavier denim and that is my favorite denim jeans. But I did order a couple pair of Duluth Trading "fire hose" pants and they are a lot more comfortable and wear better too.

Contact Carhartt and explain the issue. When I did that they paid postage to mail the jacket back to them. And installed a new zipper no charge. And the jacket had to have been 5years old. Give it a try.

When I contacted them with actual pictures of 1 leg being inches shorter than the other they wanted ME to pay shipping and they didn't give a rats azz. Terrible customer support.

I've never had trouble with any garment that has a YKK zipper, so I always look to see what zipper is on any particular garment I
intend to buy.

So YKK makes glass windows and doors and they make zippers. They last for years. If a zipper doesn’t show it, pass on the garment. Anything else is junk.
