A rear tire question

I have two 12.4 x38 4ply tires, one mounted and one replacement unmounted. One is manufactured by Power Mark and the other by Multi Trac. They both appear to have identical tread and both are very slightly if not non-worn. Is it possible they were made by the same company?

Badge engineering is the process of putting a logo and identity numbers from several resellers on the same product. gm (I use the new logo) has done
it with chevy engines. Now quite a common practice. Buick customers were mad that they got a small block chevy V8 even though it was a much better
engine. Jim

I suspect that is done, many products are from the same factory.

But just because a tire comes from the same mold doesn't mean it has the same build. Can have entirely different rubber compound and structure, just depends on what the buyer ordered.

It is possible, many retailers would have goods for their store manufactured under contract. It allows them to offer a "low price guarantee" and controls what they
may have to warranty or service in the service support channel. For years Sears Craftsman small engines were made by Tecumseh, their Guardsman tires by Michelin.
There is less than a half dozen manufacturers of car sized lead acid batteries in the USA yet hundreds of brands. An extreme example of this is in the canned goods
industry. I've seen factories running around the clock during harvest season canning vegetables without labels on the cans (called "Bright stacking") at some time
in the future to have them sold and then get labeled with the label that the purchaser contracts for. Oils and lubricants are the same way the "Parstmaster" brand
motor oil I buy at my local auto parts states on the label "Made By Ashland Industries" also known for Valvoline motor oil. My Wards Western Field shotgun is a
Mossberg and you'll find a multitude of guns out there labelled as "Ted Williams" (Sears) "Western Field" (Montgomery Wards) or "Revelation" (Western Auto Stores)

When I was working in the tire store that trade magazines had ads for wholesale tires,as long as you bought a
conex full(over seas container) they will put your name on the sidewall. IaLeo has a nice ring to it!
