ellis, i own a body among other things. we see a lot of weird things. we had one thru the shop some years back that did the same thing. too many computers, to much fly by wire systems. when they work, thats great.........but when they fail!!!

I went back and read all those stories. Makes me wonder if they used Microsoft as the vehicles OS.

Likely FreeRTOS or something similar for a controller like that. No need for such a complex OS. Also, the OS provider didn't write the software for the control loop or logic.

My guess is it is a corner case where a sensor input is out of the range the software designed for and it takes an unexpected logic path. Items like this and security has really increased the required level of software quality and focus of the OEMs.

I am glad your wife was okay and the insurance company is taking you seriously.
