Belt starting a tractor question

Does it matter any length? I ended up finding a few belts. I ended up having one belt brake (flexible, but ripped), the replacement belt I'm going to use a 6 or 7 inch belt. Most are 4 inch belts (hopefully they don't walk off). Going to be using a 1950 John Deere A as the starter and the Ford 4110 will be on the other end. In the picture, there is about 8n space.

(quoted from post at 17:02:28 01/31/21) why don't you fix starting problem?
The bendix gear keeps sticking and the motor doesnt turn over fast enough at the moment. If it needs a bendix gear, Im just going to split the tractor and put the diesel starter in it (need to change out the ring gear). This is petty much going to be the last thing before the injection pump gets pulled. https://forums.yesterdaystractors.com/viewtopic.php?p=9803993#9803993

Length really doesn't matter. My go to belt is a old 4 inch from a vermeer round baler. Been a while but memory serves there isn't room to put another tractor between the two.
Belt walking off means you aren't lined up right.

Belt length doesn't really matter except
safety aspects. I have started a few that
way and it works best if you declutch the
non running tractor and get the belt
running. It also helps if you ease it
over the first compression then the
flywheels will help it over once turning.

This could not get his 18-36 started hot, so we tried this solution.

Years ago we used to start the IH 10-20 with the belt when it was on the forage blower by just grabbing the belt a running with it and the person on the 10-20 would engage the belt pulley, easier than hand
cranking.
