Oliver 550 pro's and cons.

Good evening folks,I just sold my mf203 TLB and am looking for something a little smaller. I came across a oliver 550 diesel loader tractor. It is industrial tractor with a 4 post canopy and flat top fenders. I was wondering if there is anything I should look out for when giving the tractor a onece over.I would appreciate any and all input. Thanks

Though I am a IH guy. That tractor would be very close to the top of a list of Utility tractors. If it runs well for an hour or so (test operation), and the price seems good for both of you, buy it. Jim

I think the price is fair, and the condition is good for the age, so I will go ahead and try to buy it.Thanks again!

Which injection pump does it have? Early used the American Bosch PSB pump which has NO parts available other than gaskets/seals. If it's the late model with the Stanadyne/RoosaMaster DB parts are still available, and I'd MUCH rather have that one..
 
We have a super 55 diesel. Pretty much same tractor just earlier version. They are handy little tractors nice and nimble, great to have around. My only complaint is being a bigger tall guy its kind of hard to get on and off of. The seat is to close to the steering wheel, that's one thing I am go to change this spring. I would say if its in good shape and runs good. Then prob good deal.
 
I've had a couple S55 and 550 Olivers never really liked them,the Oliver 1265 and 1365 were much better utility tractors in my opinion.Of course if its
cheap enough.......
 
They're good utility tractor. They're kind of hard to get on and off especially if it has a loader. I also dont like any tractor that you straddle the transmission. It gets pretty warm if you're on it a long time in the heat. I have raked a lot of hay on one which wasnt a great experience. All that being said if the right deal came along I would buy one if the right deal came along.
