Gas tank liner? Never Again

Thia is a pic of the crud I drained from one of my 340's. It is in a white pail. This is the third tank that had the liner coating applied and it all fell off in piles over a period of about ten years. I ended up with the hot powerwasher in the tank to clean it out. Also a pic of the plumbers nightmare I put in to eliminate the sediment bowl and also allow me to completely drain the tank when I park it. I couldn't keep unscrewing the bowl to clean crud without the fear of wearing out the threads in the tank, so hopefully this will work. I will never put tank liner in another tank. Another one I did about thirty years ago ran red into the gas from the sealer for years.

I have lined tanks 15 years old with por-15 they still look like the day I did them... If the job is done correctly it should last a lifetime... Several I have lined set under a shed with no fuel in them they look great. Some I keep no more than a few gallons of fuel in them they look great. I have lined tanks that should have been throw away they look great.

Red Coat I never used it YES the ones I have worked on with Red coat lines tanks do have a red tint to the fuel...

I've only relined one tank and I used por-15. It was on a small Kubota diesel that was very rusty. I spent the time to do the prep work according to the directions and the final result looked really good. Hopefully it will last as well as the ones you did.

I have got to the point I soak them with muriatic acid rinse them and put gas in them. I have one more tractor I need to clean the tank, but it is a pain to get off and I just keep running it and blowing the line out till then.A hard drive magnet near the sediment bowl helps too.

Wont help with the tank liner, but the pipe nipple that went into the tank if its screws in about an inch up from the bottom will keep a lot stuff out of the filter then from time to time siphon the crud off the bottom of the tank

I've used por-15 for my simplicity landlord tractor gas tank & has lasted for years with no issues.

No tank liner works if applied over anything beside bare steel. As they said prep work is of utmost importance. That being said there is differances in materials too. 20 years ago I lined two tanks with Eastwood's materials and followed the instructions to a tee. Was expensive and time consuming but was done in 1999 and 2000 and they still look like the day I did them. Later I tried Redcoat because it cheaper, available locally and the instructions state much less prep work needed. All of my Redcoat jobs failed early, 4-5 years and I am certain that it's not the fault of the actual liner material but in short cutting the cleaning process that Eastwood prescribes.
