With the intake pipe coming in behind the piston, looks like a 2 cycle diesel somewhat.
Would like to know more about it.
Wish FLOLDFORD would see this and comment.

The writing on the tank with this engine contains at least 2 errors:

Given the brass nameplate reads "Manufactured by National Supply Co. of Delaware, Superior Engine Division", it cannot date from 1920. Superior merged with National Supply Company in 1950 and their name first appeared on the serial plate shortly after that. In 1955, National sold the Superior Engine Div. to White Motor Co. With that change in ownership, National's name promptly disappeared from the plates and White's then started to be used. This engine was made between those two events. Besides that, a Superior from the 1920's would have an open crankshaft and connecting rod, not an enclosed crankcase, which appeared in the late 1930's.

It is also not a 60 horsepower engine as claimed, it is a 40 h.p., again, as clearly stated on the serial tag.
