Belarus 572 Rear wheels not driving

Hello to All,

My mate has Belarus 572 4x4 Tractor with a Front Bucket.

We have a rather annoying problem..

The Rear wheels are not driving.

The tractor is currently only a Front Wheel drive tractor whicjh is usable only for light work slashing no pushing with the bucket.

When we disengage the front wheels all we hear is a whirring sound coming fome somewhere.. I am sorry for the non mechanical info.

I was suspecting that the tractor might have two broken rear axles?? The tractor has had a very hard life with the prevoius owner(s)

Any good way to test the broken axle theory??

I would be most grateful for any help

Thanks in advance !

Firstly I am not familiar with the specific tractor you’re asking
about. That said what I’m about to suggest may or may not
work depending on how the drivetrain is laid out. It would
probably only take one broken rear axle to make it not drive.
The only things I can think of to diagnose this externally are
as follows. 1 - if it has a differential lock try engaging it and
then try moving the tractor. 2 - if it doesn’t, while the tractor is
in gear and should be moving try pressing only one of the
brake pedals and then the other. 3 - if neither of these work
and the tractor has externally accessible brakes try removing
the covers and see if anything moves. After that disassembly
will probably be required. Good luck.

Never been around a Belarus, just guessing. My first thought was clutch, but if it's mechanical drive, you wouldn't have power to the front axle. Have you tried jacking up both rear wheels and put it in gear to see if either rear wheel will turn?

Does it not drive in every gear? If this transmission has two ranges, could it be the shift collar
that shift from one range to the other? On most tractors the front axle would drive from the pinion
shaft. The problem might be the pinion to the ring gear slipping. Pull the drain plug and watch for
metal filings in the oil.

Make sure you didn't shear a rear axle key, and one axle is turning. Seen that happen on those. Try stepping on one brake at a time, see if anything moves. Diff lock is a knob on the lower left of dash, pull out and see what happens. Make sure you are in high or low range completely.
