Yup, it is time for the annual cracked finger skin thread. Pretty much everyone who works outdoors at all and especially if you get your hands wet will get those annoying cracks in their thumb and finger skin. A few years ago I had a brain storm and before putting on my rubber gloves for a dirty job I slathered on a heavy application of hand lotion. I use Cornhuskers, but this works with whatever your favorite is. I found that doing this only 3-4 times a winter keeps me from getting cracks. There are all kinds of ways to care for them after you get them but this will keep you from getting them, and it gets you out of having to rub, rub, rub the lotion in and still get it all over things that you need to handle. I never got to it last year due to taking seven weeks off due to a hip replacement and then my heart problem, but I remembered it yesterday.

Now you did it. Probably reminded my right thumb to split on the end again for the umteenth time this year. I try to stay on top of it with lotion. All this extra hand washing I've done this last year has the heels of my hands feeling like 10 grit sandpaper. Could probably karate chop a couple cinder blocks with them now. Also had to buy an extra set of files from HF to work on my feet. The mill bast*** file works best.

Ive been using "OKeeffe's Working Hands" hand cream. I really like it.
Also use it on my leg/ankle that I shattered a few years ago as it seems to have really dry skin ever since all the swelling & surgeries on it. The itching drives me crazy. Only thing Ive found that seems to really help.

Ohh yes, when we were still milking throw in a few dozen
daily lathers of iodine test dip and your really looking at
cracked open pivot points all over your hands. I find O’Keefs
pretty good too.

I have the same trouble every winter. My solution is super glue the big cracks together and on my thumb that always cracks I cut the thumb out of a latex glove and put it over my thumb with lotion and then tape it on.

I work outside all the time. Been taping
a couple fingers for a few weeks now.
Lotion doesn't work because my hands get
wet and wash it off.

I always wonder if you changed your diet or drank more water if that would help.
I know I used to get a dry throat often and I now need to drink almost a gallon of water a
day and it never happens. Never have dry skin anymore either.

Went through some of that in December, don’t
seem too bad now. Maybe cause everything is
frozen hard, and I don’t get wet hands now every
time I put my hands/gloves on something. Wet
gloves are just about as bad as no gloves at all.

I use a real thick Neutrogena product that my wife gets me. I also
have some O’Keefe’s in my truck. I have also found that if I leave my
thumb nails even with the end of the thumb I have less cracking.
Maybe I’m crazy but I’m sticking with it.

I just put supper glue on the cracks. And use this lotion. My hands
are always dry this time of year.

I have had this problem most of this year. Never had it in warm months ever, only winter rime. I had the
China Virus back in March and I think it is one of the many long term effects of it. Really screws up the
immune system.
