OT Super Unleaded Gas

My daughter and boy friend made a trip from Illinois to Washington and said they ran into what was called Super Unleaded gas. They said it was cheaper than reg unleaded so tried a couple tank fulls, very poor mileage. What is super unleaded back there?

Well here in Indiana super unleaded gas is 93 octane. Believe it is the same in Illinois. But it is the most expensive not the cheapest. You sure they didn't buy E85?

Most likely it was the grade that is more ethanol than gas. It is for Flex Fuel compatible vehicles.

They must have filled up with the higher ethanol blend. My vehicles don't show a mileage difference with up to 20% ethanol compared to regular. Above 20% the mileage drops real quick but the pump price is cheaper so it evens out somewhat.

Could they have purchased E-15? I once filled my 96 Toyota pickup with E85 by accident. I honestly could not tell any difference, other mileage dropped at bit.

Maybe e85 for flex fuel vehicles, my flex fuel truck on e10 or e15 does about twenty mpg. On e85 the gauge drops like a rock.

Here in Nebraska Super unleaded is usually E10 or E15. While mileage will drop as ethanol use goes up, the difference in price usually balances it out.

Here, super unleded is just E10 with supposedly more octane, and is substantially more expensive. It would not have caused a drop in mileage, only a drop in your bank account.

They probably got E85, it is cheaper, and gets way less mileage. Only some later model vehicles are designed to even run on it.

Never bought it, never will, except to wash out a fouled gas tank.

In Iowa and MN super 88 and super 87 are E-15, 15 percent ethanol. E-15 usually sells for around 20 cents per gallon less than regular E-10.

Never understood how using corn squeezins could clean anything when it was corn squeezins that plugged it up in the first place ? Kinda like washing your hands in grease to get the oil off
