Unstyled b throttle spring

Looking to replace the throttle lever spring (the one by the steering wheel) this weekend on the b. Current one is broke. The replacement spring I ordered seems to be a little thicker/ harder to compress.. thinking it's going to be a challenge to get the handle back on while compressing new spring. Does the throttle lever come off by just loosening the set screw and pull it off? Thanks

FWIW, I just checked and both the coil spring the throttle lever shaft passes through and the long flat spring are still available from DEERE!

Did you get a NOS spring, a new spring from DEERE, or an aftermarket spring?

And, get, the setscrew is all that holds the lever on.

Thanks for the info, do you have a prat# i can use for deere? part C1438R isnt coming up with any parts online. Also my parts manual doesnot
show a PN for the set screw

Youngest son helped me do that years ago on a 39 JD H.
It is hard to compress that spring.
My thumb got mashed and hurt like crap.

Any DEERE dealer should be able to get the spring under it's original part number, C1438R. (Some $24.)

The parts catalog for the unstyled tractors omits the screw, it's just a 1/4" or 5/16 square-head setscrew that can be had at most any hardware store.

The parts catalog for the styled tractors lists the setscrew as A320R, nearby dealer says it now subs to 22H42, and they have 'em in stock.

I got an aftermarket spring, the site i bought it from says it replaces part#C1438R. Is the $24 one from deere different than what steiner
sells?
