Deer Hunting in South Carolina?

Nephew in Maryland has a chance to hunt with friends in SC this year, but he has no gun. I can loan him one - but do they use rifles or shotguns down there? Does it depend on the area he hunts?

Thanks,
Tim

Depends more on time of hunt. In my “zone” archery season starts in August, then rifle season starts in September. In rifle season you can use a rifle or a shotgun depending on location (very rural or densely populated). Zone management area (usually state or Federal lands) have different rules.

Hes got a while to wait now, seasons over here. Most of the people who hunt my land, and those I know who dont hunt my place use rifles. I couldnt tell you what all of them use, I just know its mostly rifles I see in the trucks. I do think the 30/06 is pretty popular here. I personally used my great gramps 32 Winchester. There are a few bowhunters, but I dont see them as much around here as there use to be.

Thanks for the replies. Guess I will wait and see if it pans out for him. Hoping he will be satisfied with my scoped Remington 1100 shotgun. I really don't want to let him take my Savage 99 - I use that now that NY approved rifle hunting. Funny - he wanted to go out with me when he was little, so I took him up back. We just got nicely settled in a spot, maybe 10 minutes later he says "OK - now what"?
