IH filmstrip archive update....

Well folks, I'm in the home stretch. There are 11 filmstrips & records left to convert to video & post, with 30 that are already up. It's been a challenge, but I like that. Some of the films are beginning to warp & distort. Images may not be as sharp as they once were. However, I'm not sure how sharp they would have been to begin with. They are, after all, designed to be projected onto a screen that really wasn't designed to deliver razor sharp image fidelity. There were also a couple that were so degraded that the perfs shredded in the filmstrip adapter on my Carousel. That made for one heck of a time trying to keep everything straight. That's another reason I opted to crop the pictures that you see. It's about the only way I can keep everything relatively square without using ann editing program. There's a really nice program that I downloaded.... & can't use. Seems it requires an OpenGL v 3.3 compatible video card & my laptop is about two years too old for that. So, that idea gets the Purple Heart. At least for now.

Minus the scratches & gouges, the records held up fairly well. Still have to play them at 33 RPM to keep them from skipping so bad & boy oh boy did they need a cleaning. A few of them had the odd, small blister. A couple were scratched so bad I didn't think there could be much done for them. Fortunately, most of the records have the same recording on both sides which made my day a bit easier. There were a few that were either sided A & B or had nothing on the other side at all. I'm fortunate that those were still good. One record, so far just wasn't coming clean & I had to use wood glue to get it to play good. Another had a bad hiss to it. I joked in the comment for that one that I shouldn't have washed it with carbonated water. :vD Speaking of, a couple records got the water treatment while playing. I applied a thin layer of water ahead of the needle, with a microfiber cloth, to eliminate the crackles that I couldn't get out in post, with editing. Worked good & actually brought out a little more dimension to the narrator's voice. Most other issues were remedied with a lot of cut 'n' paste action. There were a few times I had to reconstruct a sentence using words from the rest of the track & the other side. Did I get the sentence right? Don't really know & can't time travel to go back & get the script. ;v) Sounds good from what I could make out from the record initially, so.... ?
Anyhow, I'll leave a link below to my playlist of what there is so far. All free for viewing as I have no interest in monetizing my videos. If YouTube decides at some point to do that, it is out of my control. It states in the terms that YT can tag ads onto your videos at their discretion. I don't get enough traffic that there's anything to worry about. If anyone sees ads in ANY of my videos (minus the one), please let me know. One video that's posted does have them. It's a CONTAX camera slide show that has some production music in it that the AI sniffed out & tagged. So, that's my one exception.

If anyone has anything they would like to have transferred & posted, just let me know. I'm not out to make money off of it, should anyone be concerned about that.

Enjoy the videos!

Regards,
Mike

They look great. Are you ready for some John Deere ones? I need to check but I am 99% sure there is nothing about any copyright on them anywhere. I am like you and would like to see them done for the education of and interest of others. I have 2 Case combines as well that you can do. Email me at [email protected] Thanks Tom
