GRain Elevators again

Reading about feed mills jogged my memory. Myself and some very good employee built or preformed major work on over 200 bucket elevators. Couple that stick in mind are one in northern Ill. One hundred ninety foot tall. I promised the owner it would be ready for corn. It was90 percent finished with running in the belt without the electrician having the double chute consigner valves wired. Owner asked what would keep the 6000 bushel per hour leg from handling soybeans. I said for us nothing, however your electrical guy only has the motor wired and Not completely . The last 4 or 5 days there was a line of maybe 30 bobtail trucks in line to unload. Their wait would often be more then 2 hours.. Next morning at 8 am with the consigner held in place with a couple of cables a line of trucks begin to unload. In 30 minutes the line was gone. .In a few minutes another line was there. The other local elevator also usually had a line as long. Word quickely got around , no waiting to unload.

I and crew installed grain leg only about 50 foot at a very old flour mill which manufactured glue extender for the ply wood trade. We performed all machine work for this mill as it was less that 100 miles from our shop. This next few lines are true as I would attest to on a bible!!! I knew that mill completely. I mean EVERY machine in it. One night after health forced me to retire from millwright work I had a terrible dream that that mill was on fire. In my minds eye I saw the leg go down. In my dream I even knew where the fire started!!! As I suppose luck or maybe fate I was going through the town on my way to the Louisville farm Machinery Show. Approaching the town noticed all types of fire machinery. The mill was now nothing bur rubble. I was visibly shaken as I approached the owner. In our discussion I said ,Joe this is scary. I dreamed last night this was happening!! I told him just where the fire started. He said done say a word for a while. A few weeks later he called and verified the insurance and fire people verified the very place I had dreamed the fire started.

The elevator in South East North Dakota when built about 15-17 years ago, had the fastest dump in the United States it was said, weather it was true i don't know, but they can dump three semis at a time,3 alleys, the driver doesn't get out of the truck, they can open the traps wide open, and wosh, they close the traps u drive off! There was sometimes a line but it moved ahead fast, maybe 3 minutes max !

Do you happen to remember the town in northern Illinois? Not many roads north of I-80 I haven't been on! I think I'd remember a 190 ft tall grain elevator.

Momence. i think, been a few years 42 total guy wires Had 5 guy wire sets it did go through a tornado removed roofs and dropped other grain legs in town I was told Did 3 or 4 north of Princeton Ill. Hamelin town or something like that.
