I received a couple books for Christmas on the topic of English steam power. There is numerous mention of the Marshall Company. This got me thinking. Marshall built the Field Marshall, but I am not familiar with the company between steam and Field Marshall. It turns out they were a very diverse company in the implement and industrial line and appear to have some joint ventures or subsidiaries of good standing. They were developing their gas tractor in similar fashion and time frame as many domestic companies.
What I found surprising is that they were outsourcing their engines. This wasn’t unheard of in 1908, but I found it interesting that they were a freakishly modern engine from a company 25 years in the future.
Just goes to show you.
