I have a JD 165 BH that came with an open center plug in it. The kit #AT53853 that provides the closed center plug is unavailable anywhere! Does anyone have any idea of an aftermarket or good used parts store that might have one? Or even if I could get the dimension I would get one made. HELP!

May I ask what makes you think a AT53853 will fit the hyd control valve of a JD 165 BH ? AT53853 isn't listed in 165 PC 1341.
Have you checked with JD dealer about PN GT6977 CC plug shown in 165 PC?
You are correct. GT6977 is the PN shown both in the online John Deere parts catalog and the parts manual. It is obsolete according to the dealer. My digging shows that the closed center plug for the 7, 8, 8A, 8B, 10 and 10A Backhoes is the AT53853 which is also obsolete. Thought I saw the cross reference somewhere but can't seem to locate it right now.

In his other post I got that number. I got it when I put the actual plug number T35994 (item key number 31) in my cart. AT53853 was shown as substituted for T35994. AT53853 shows as available to order in a check on line at the construction dealer I use, but I didn't talk to anyone there about it. I suggested he talk to his dealer. I don't know if he is talking to a green or yellow dealer and I don't know if this is one of those parts only one color of the other can get.

That's odd because my JD shopping cart doesn't show the PN substitution that you referred to.

I tried the actual plug number, T35994, as well as the kit number you had. The plug number showed the substitution.

They were stocked in 2007 for my 10A.
