Trencher update

Just got my new parts. The axle shaft came in some serious packing. They must have foamed it while in the box.

Here it is after I carved it out.

It's a bit long but they put long splines on it so it can be cut as needed. Looks like it only needs an inch off it.

And the new differential gears. Even came with new bolts for the ring gear.

Now the fun begins...

PS

I know someone will ask what the tractor back there is. That's a Massey Harris Mustang. It has a Continental 140 engine. My dad built this shop so he could spend his old age restoring Massey Harris tractors. He barely got it done when Leukemia took him. We have a 44 I grew up with and he acquired a Colt, Mustang, 30 and a 22. He never got to complete one. Maybe I'll be able to eventually.

It's too bad your dad couldn't enjoy the new shop. When we finally have a warm tight shop where we don't see our breath all winter we tend to like it for a long time. The newness does not wear off right away. That axle will cut hard or at least the Chevy C70 axle I cut a few years ago did. Darned near burned up the chop saw on that one. The Chevy axle is a little bigger but they all are made of good stuff nonetheless. Good luck getting it back together. Let us know how it turns out.

Yes that axcel may cut hard. Had a truck puller on a sunday county fair that broke an axcel the night before. He had a spare with him but it was an inch to long. I told them that we could run home to my garage and chop it with the chop saw. So we about burned up my chop saw.It wouldnt even touch it. It was super hard stuff. Just to get it in time to pull we cut it with the torch. They got the thing back together and went out and broke something else.
