Had a sett of American black center mags on my car when I was younger and always liked them--so we are doing a little modifying of the new ones we got from Jegs. Talked the Wife into masking them and I sprayed them black---Tee

Home on leave--my 63 with the mags

The spindles and hubs were off of a 5 bolt wagon so we had to re-drill the holes--I'm CHEAP

My first car was a 63 Galaxy 500 also. Mine was a fastback 2 door hardtop, white with a black fake vinyl top, red interior. I had black wheels with baby moons on it. I always liked that car. My older brother was the second owner of the car, I was the third owner and later my younger sister was the fourth. She pulled in front of a pickup at a blind intersection and the junk yard became the final owner. )-:

Big Tee....... I think it makes Abe look that much tougher. Plus it gives you memories of your RIDE back in 63'. Your main squeeze did a wonderful job dressing up the mag wheels. I'm a lucky man to have a wife just like yours. She wants to help me all the time AND can turn a wrench. Wingnut

The Galaxy nameplate was first used in 1959 as the top of the line Fairlane. My father had a 1959 Fairlane 500 Galaxy. They became separate models in 1960. Ford did the same thing in 1965. The top of the line Galaxy 500 was the LTD. They became separate models in 1966. My father also had a 1965 Galaxy 500 LTD. I took my road test with that one.

My first car was a 66 Galaxy 2 dr. hardtop. Second was a 69 2 dr. Nice wheels! You have an understanding wife to let you paint them in the kitchen. LOL

You should really never use newspaper for masking. As you know it has coarse fibre texture and these fibres are blown off by your spray gun onto your paint. Use what the shops use or save the glossy pages from magazines or where ever you find them.

That is the house--the Mrs. masked them in the house and I took them out to the shop and rattle canned them and took them back in the house to dry--not a fan of rattle cans but it worked...Thanks

Never heard that about newspapers but it make sense--learned something today. I always wipe down with thinner and lightly blow stuff before I shoot...Thanks

This is the servants quarters Mel--but if you come out to Iowa you and your family can stay in the "Big House"---

Galaxie became a trim package on the Fairlane in 59
Fairlane 500 became a midsize car in 62 while the large bodied Fairlane continued as a base model till 65 when the Fairlane name was dropped, the Galaxie became the base model with Galaxie 500 LTD being the top trim level, the Galaxy name was dropped after 74 with the LTD becoming the base model

You probably had a 63 and 1/2 if it was the fast back--Beautiful cars!!! Older buddy of mine had a all red one--427 with a 4 speed--Mine was a 352 with a 4 speed--A "DOG"--The 327 Chevy's would kick my azz!!---Thanks

NO-NO-NO---This and a Hemi Roadrunner are my ultimate dream cars---Dingle balls--NO--Fuzzy dice on the rear view mirror--YES

The black center really sets them off. In my shop I store the drop cord on a chrome rim that was on my first car, a 59 Chevy. Sometimes I wish I still had that car but other times I think about that mushy suspension, six banger, no power steering and three on the tree and the nostalgia fades away.

A kid i went to school with had onr just like that..well maybe not as nice tho but we use to see who could do the best burns out, my 66 nova was was lighter so I could leave 2 nice ships all the way accross the school lot.

In Canada, the Custom and Custom 500 models were below the Galaxie models up to
the 1970s. A different marketing strategy, I guess....Custom models were equipped
with 240 six or the 250 six and a 3 speed column shifted manual trans with no power
equipment as a base equipped car.

Yup, a 63 and a 1/2. Mine had a 289 with a 3 on the column. My mufflers went bad so I turned straight pipes out in front of the back wheels. Its bark was definitely worse than its bite.

My brother had one like that only blue. I think it was a 63 1/2. Not sure why it was designated a 63 1/2. He sold it later to my dad who used it as a daily driver.

Brown paper grocery bags are also pretty much "lint free". White freezer paper would be the "10" of masking material.

(quoted from post at 00:05:14 01/11/21) My brother had one like that only blue. I think it was a 63 1/2. Not sure why it was designated a 63 1/2. He sold it later to my dad who used it as a daily driver.

The 63 Galaxie had the same notch back roofline and back glass as the 62 model, in mid 63 Ford lowered the roof and gave it a fastback design , this was to reduce drag and improve aerodynamics to make the cars more competitive for NASCAR racing.
The later fastback cars where called 63 1/2 models.
