From last harvest

My nephew recorded a few scenes from our wheat harvest this past fall while he was trucking the grain. I'm in it but you won't see me except through the window of
the combine.

I used to drive trucks in harvest 36 years ago and the farmers I worked for had Ford, Chevy, GMC, and Internationals. Of all the trucks I drove, the two I preferred were Internationals. A Fleetstar with a Detroit and a loadstar.

The truck and camera look very steady but your nephew is bouncing around. Is the bouncing done for an effect and not caused by rough roads?

I think that is a two-speed rear axle truck with the little "horizontal" lever on the side of the main large "vertical" lever to do the axle shift. The first school busses I drove 20 years ago were Internationals with two-speed rear axles.

Just one section of the drive was rough where some cat work was done clearing ground for the bison fence. Otherwise its pretty smooth. The Eaton two speed only has a red button on the gear shift for high or low axle.

Looked very natural too me. Old truck seats aren’t air ride, and seat springs bounce the driver quite a bit.

Bruce, when we got this Loadstar back in the spring of 1984 the thing that impressed me the most was the ride. I was used to much older Fords that rode like the proverbial "lumber wagon" when empty because of the heavy springs. Load them heavy and that smoothed them out a bit. But this IH rode like a car even empty because it has a different spring setup than the old Fords. And yet it has far greater carrying capacity than the old
Fords ever had.
