international 500 dozer quit running

My diesel dozer abruptly stopped running with no indication of anything wrong. It stopped as thought the fuel was immediatly shut off. Trying to restart I get no smoke or any kind of indication that it is even trying to start. I suspect the injector pump has gone bad.
Is there any way to test the pump while on the engine?
Could it be due to anything else, such as timing?

Sorry if this is a duplicate post, I think I did something wrong in posting it the first time.

What type of shut down system does it have??
Will it fire on starting fluid??
How long has it been since you changed the fuel filters??
How cold is it where you are??

If below freezing water can freeze in the fuel system and shut it down

Diagnose and check things out before attacking the injection pump.

Have you checked the fuel level in the tank (running out happens to about everyone sooner or later)? If the tank level is ok, there could be a blockage in the line or valving. Does the fuel come out freely?

When was the fuel filter(s) last changed? I don't expect fuel has gelled but any water in the filter might freeze, depending on where you are located.

Mechanical or electric fuel shutoff? Is it working?

Thanks to all who have posted.
I did break the line going from the fuel pump so I know that is working.
The shutoff is mechanical, I will be checking that out tomorrow.

A trouble shooting process is certainly needed, but, if it has an electric fuel shut-off that could be the culprit.

A methodical approach will be fastest. Start at the tank check fuel level then see if you have fuel flow with a stream the full size of the line not a dribble. Then go to the first filter and check flow there and change filter. If flow is good there then next filter and change while there checking flow again if good flow not a dribble then bleed line at lift pump along the way and finally at injection pump. Also loosen lines at injectors to see if fuel is being pushed out by the pump. IF so then check return line for free flow. Blow air in at the pump end listen in the tank for the air flow or bubbling. IF after this if not running then either lift pump is bad or injection pump needs some work. If it had jumped on timing I would think you would hear that and the noise made of things clashing.

I went the methodical approach and glad I did. Prior to troubleshooting I changed the fuel filter. I then bled out the system and it started right up. Thinking maybe the filter was clogged and allowed the pump to suck in some air from somewhere.

Thanks all for the help!

Did you look in the tank at all? Did you see any black goo on the old filters. Do you use biodiesel or a blend of it? Algae can for in tanks particularly if the equipment sets for a time. Once it starts the black gooey slime can quickly plug the tank outlet or collect in the filters and plug them in no time.
