I have been looking for some chains to fit a 15.5 x 38 tires. When I look in craigslist I see a lot of chains advertised but they give me the chain dimensions like width and length and not the tire size they fit. For example I found a pair of double link chains that the guy says they are 13 feet long by 19 in wide, Would these fit a 15.5x38. Can someone tell what are the dimensions length and width for chains for 15.5 x 38 tires?

For cross chain length, measure from half way out on one sidewall up over tread to half way on other sidewall.
For side chain length, measure from half way on the sidewall across center of wheel to half way on other sidewall, to get diameter of where side chains will ride, then multiply by 3.14 to get circumference of where side chain will ride, that will give you length you will need.
You might want to add a bit to side chain for adjustment.

Bob you just might have told me what I have. Mine are supposed to be for 16.9-38 but the are too narrow and too short. The short is easy, the too narrow is a problem.

come on over have them in stock

Bob,,,,I live in Johnson City,,,I would be interested in those chains if they are double ring. How much you want for them? Send me an email.

Chas,

If you're after double ring chains, you need to find a pair that has 17 cross chains 29.67" long. H chains would need 10 cross chains.
