Decent day to move pellets

Nice balmy 29 degree day so I decided to move a few pellets from the pole barn to the basement. The Ford 860 gets put to work for this since it got retired from snowblower duty. Good exercise for me also loading and unloading the bags.

You need to pick up a length of roller conveyor so you don't end up breaking something on those steps!

Tractor is a 1955 Ford 860 with live PTO and a Sherman Napco front wheel assist conversion.

A conveyor would be great. Sometimes I drive down the slope to back right up to the basement door, but dont have much snow this year yet so I did not want to tear up the lawn getting back up the hill.

Nice setup! I like your tractor. We burn pullets as well but just as an alternate heat source and . Burn about 3/4 of ton a year, are pullets your main source of heat?

Our pellet stove is used to heat our finished basement, but the heat does make its way upstairs to the main level of our house. We have a propane forced air furnace as a suppliment for the main level of the house. We burn about three tons from mid October through mid May. We downsized from a 500 gallon propane tank to a 300 gallon tank as we do not use enough propane in the winter to justify the bigger tank.

I've never seen a 860 with FWA--Neat! We had a 860 when I was a kid--was our manure hauler and loader tractor. That is why I bought one 10 yrs. ago.---Tee

Have you looked into putting a bin in the garage and getting them augered in? You could also install an auger to take them to your stove. A couple that just moved into a new home had that put in.

I have not looked into an auger, but that is a very interesting idea. My pellet stove is at the far corner of the basement away from the garage, so storing them in the garage would not work so well. I currently store the 40 lb bags of pellets under the basement stairs. I can fit about 1.5 tons under the stairs.
