Homemade cell operated trap gate trip anyone?

Seen some homemade cell operated hog trap gates on you tube;anybody build one?a commercially built one is well over a grand,wow!

What do you want to use this for.
Hunting hogs.
Or
Removing nuisance or land destroying hogs.

Reason I ask; The LSU ag center was renting traps for the removal of nuisance or land destroying hogs.
Not sure if they still are but I see no reason for them to have stopped unless the grant money ran out.
Have no idea of the cost but they had several of those top line systems for rent.
Might want to call your parish Ag center office and ask about it.

I saw an episode of "Kentucky Afield" a few months ago that had a remote controlled trap for hogs. They(Ky Fish and Wildlife) were working with the USDA to eliminate problem hogs and using them. They (F&W) have many episodes on you tube if you care to look. They also have a number to call with questions, 800 858-1549 and a website fw.ky.gov Good Luck!

y son built his own & has been using it for about a year, but you need a pretty good knowledge of electronics & electronic assembly to do what he has done. You have to provide for avoiding nuisance tripping & that isn't as easy as you might think. I doubt that he has any "literature' put together, but I am posting to show that it can be done.

I think you want a cellular game cam capable of live streaming the action. Then via a phone app you could trigger a solenoid to allow gate to drop.
If there is no camera out there with any phone controlled output voltage that can be turned on and off, then you will need a separate system to do that.

Looks like this switch could do that.

no idea, maybe why no price on that one?

But the thought is a switch that can be operated via phone would seem to fit the need.

Modern versions must be out there?

Used to be you could buy just a "burner" cell phone, had a fixed amount of minutes on it, and you could add more by buying refill cards at most retailers. The minutes didn't expire.

Do such things still exist? The only ones I'm seeing have "plans" now. No commitment but still a monthly plan.
