Archer Chainsaw Chain / Charles in Aust. , Grandpa Love

Hi ,

Has anyone used this type / brand of chain before ? How does it compare to American chain such as Oregon brand or other aftermarket chains or brand names like Sthil,etc.. Any pros / cons ? Thoughts ? I have a friend that works on small engines at his home and he fools with a few saws during the winter . Has a sharpener , but not the breaker and the other stuff , just sharpener . Said that he'd buy the stuff if he could get the chain cheaper than his books and someone mentioned that they had ordered it online somewhere cheaper , but it depends on chain size as well as how many feet or spool size . So i'm looking on the net for him ! Anyone know of a better or cheaper chain or website ?

Grandpa Love , could you ask your brother in Australia since this is where its from about it ? If he's heard of it or used it ?
Charles in Australia , have you ever heard of it or used it ?

Thanks for all any any help !

Archer Chainsaw Chain

Although I have never used it the company and product has been discussed heavily on the forestry forums. It is not made in Australia. It is Chinese chain repackaged, marketed and sold by Archer and thus is no different than the China chain marketed under many other names. Every outfit that does this claims theirs has superior quality control and thats just so much bunk. Quality control lacking with mostly soft links amd pins and excess stretch but an occasional good one slipping through. The do offer some odd ball types for older saws. You can buy the same chain at TSC sold as thier house brand. In my world quality saw chain is worth every penny paid, I don't fool with it.

Agree with Butch. From what I read on saw sites, it's not bad stuff, but it's not the best. Some guys love it, some hate it. I'm getting so I have little use for Oregon chain myself, love Stihl. I think it depends on the user as much as anything else. I used/use a lot of Forester brand bars and chains. Another low price, probably made in China option, but they've given great service.

I have read both ways, rebadged Windsor
and China. I think Windsor was gobbled up
by the same company that owns Oregon and
Carlton?

We sold a LOT of Carlton and Windsor back in the 80's. Great chain back then.
