john deere 4450 pto will not disengage

If it's the brake it's two splits. Can't really tell until you check the clutch and if that's the problem you've probably smoked
the brake too. So figure on two splits.

THANKS,it is a powershift.you can stop pto shaft with a 2x4,
also when you hold back on lever it will disengage,
check valve body[ball and spring]this was in prevIOUS post.
or use bungee strap.LOl

👍🏼Thanks will do. If you cant stop with 2x4
Its likely internal correct? Also because I can pull it back and hold it it disengages. This is why I thought external
Repair-right?
Headin out to start

Sagged cab mounts can affect the linkage adjustment between the lever and the valve.

I don't have a manual at hand to detail the procedure to setup/adjust the linkage, but I would start there.

You really need a factory service manual to walk you through all the details, then once the linkage is checked and reset, if needed you can next check PTO clutch and brake pressures.

Obviously, also check the cab mounts and replace, if needed.

If when holding the lever back it
disengaged the problem is probably the
linkage, when you let go of the lever it
could fall down a little resulting in the
pto not disengaging.

I've had it happen a couple of times where, when chopping corn stalks, a cob would get caught in the linkage under the cab causing the valve to not not close correctly.
