Tractor mounted pull type snow blower

Something a little different

I remember back in the early 60’s there were pull type snow blowers that were really nothing more than a vee shaped rig with a fan in the small end of the vee. If the temperature was cold , and the snow light and powder, they would work, but useless in wet snow.
Local dealer is selling these 2 stage blowers. Some tractors don’t have a slow enough reverse gear for blowing snow with a conventional style blower. And no question it is much more comfortable driving forward, than trying to look backwards.

As long as the weight of the unit and the cutter bar are able to removed the packed snow, from the tractor tires, it would make a great unit.

I have had my Erskine just like the picture for about 50 years. I believe it was built in 1948 or 49. It is
on my 8N and works great. Cleans the snow down to about 1 inch or less from the driveway. Packing snow
with the tractor is NOT a problem. I think I replaced 1 Pillow block bearing (uses 2) many years ago.
Living in Minnesota for awhile and in South Dakota, I have seen a lot of snow. Yes wet snow does not work
well even with many other types.

Funny you should bring this up. Yesterday I brought this home to my yard. I will be running it for a company that just bought their third tractor/blower package in three years. Lots of accounts. I will have right around 50 different jobs to do. From small driveways to 2 walking trail systems. They are working great for his business. People don't want plows tearing up their lawns, large piles of snow, etc. The blowers are really doing well for him, and remove the snow down to the concrete or asphalt. Based on the forecast and the storm that will hit tonight, tomorrow will be my maiden voyage with it. Here are a couple youtube videos of the one I will be operating. Its not me in it though.

Last year the neighbour at the farm bought a pull behind snow blower for his 70 HP Kubota with spike chains on all 4 wheels. He has to blow about a 3 mile road to get to his wood lot and got tired of going in reverse. He kept his old reverse snow blower as a backup if there is 2 ft or more snow at a time.
The company that does our driveway has a fancy model of pull behind snow blower with a remote hydraulic blade on the back so that can back within an inch or two of your garage door, lower the blade drive forward 3 feet then lift blade and snow blower, backup until snow blower is in the bladed area lower and start snow blower and drive forward.

They were ok as long as the snow was less than axle deep. Then, it was back up to the snowbank and take one bite at a time.

I would like to try one of the ones with a scraper blade that drops down behind a regular style blower. Might be the best of both worlds.

Really what I need is a small engine driven blower to put on my 420 Cat loader backhoe.

I have a 6 foot agro trend pull type and I really like it. I kept my New Holland reverse drive in case I get snows over 2 feet. The pull type is great for not having to look back but also you don't have to deal with the cab windows getting covered in snow and not being able to see. I use it on a paved driveway and can clean it right down to the pavement.

to me they would be a waste, anything I can drive through pulling it I can move faster with a loader or dozer even a rear blade,, when I need a snow blower its DEEP, and that thing would not work,, besides packing down the snow as you are driving on it,, like said for a foot or so of snow it would do the job, if you want to have what 3-5K in something like that go for it
