Finished the trailer winch

Today. Temps in the 50’s, so I threw some black paint on it. Haven’t decided what to do about a battery yet. I doubt that it will get used that much, thinking about just taking a battery out of a tractor when I need to use the winch.

I need to figure out a cover for it.

Also use something to hold the battery cables out of the way. Between my GF and I, the controller cable got wrapped up into the drum. I remember that she apologized for it so I guess it was her fault. I had to hard wire the control into the winch and so now it can't be detached anymore.

I have the same winch on my 10,000gvw bumper pull. I had a rack made above the hitch to mount a 6'wide metal tool box. My winch is under the tool box. The battery for it is inside. I made some brackets inside to hang my color coded 5/16 grade 70 chains (different lengths) and my ratchet binders. I do need to wire it so that my towing vehicle can charge the battery. Currently I charge the battery as needed.

I don't use the winch on my trailer very much and need a battery for the hydraulic lift for the bed too.So I have a David Brown that the battery is easy to take in and out so I just run a deep cycle battery in it and the use it on the trailer when needed plus carry a jump box with me too.

consider running a hot cable from the battery to the back of your puller truck to a welder lead disconnect and a ground from thr frame to same. then male welder lead plugs on your winch leads and you'll always have the power you need even in unexpected situations. plastic plugs will protect the female connecters from dirt and crud Just my thots

I use a SS grill top they are normally free for the asking : )... I would like to have a box I may do'dat when I run across a free one...

John we use a charge hot wire also ADD a 20 am breaker in the line, between the truck and the winch battery. Then when you get out there and winch of 20 minutes and the winch battery gets low it will not try and run off the charge wire. Once one gets loaded the battery will recharge on the way back home. Separate winch battery set up lit this is the only way to go. Long power or welding leads from truck battery will just pull the battery down and leave one stranded out there with a dead or weak battery.

Don’t forget the HF remote! I cut out a plastic 30 gal drum and covered my winch and used tarp straps to hold it down. Works very well. Get a snatch block. Remember to let the winch rest and cool when pulling heavy. Don

I made a set of jumper cables for my winch. I bought the welding cables, plugs and clamps on line. I have one end with a welding plugin and the other in clamps. I plug in the winch and clamp to my truck batteries. When I use them as regular jumper cables I have a short section of cable with clamps and and plug that in. I used to have a battery that I would move in an out to the trailer, it got to be a pain.
