Looking at a B43G onan as a replacement for my P218 in my skid loader. From what I can find they are both 18hp but the B43 is older. Are they close to the same? Any major difference that might make it not work? Thanks for the replies.

The output shaft doesn't matter because the drive bolts to the flywheel and that appears to be the same. Thanks tho.

The P series replaced the B series. Back in the early 90s Dad and I put a new P18 in a Case 446 to replace a blown B43M. Everything bolted on to engine fine once we shortened one shaft just a bit. I have a Case now that needs an engine and to do a repower now is much more involved with no more Onans available.

Suggest you go to Smok Stak and search for Onan info. There is detailed info on Onan generators. I'm sure you can find help on dimensional data for your engines.

Sorry I can't help you much as I know enough to screw up your search.

Also Billy Schafer who post occasionally on YT and more on S/S is the resident expert on all things Onan.

I have read several posts (don't know where) of using a HF engine with good results. Might troll the web for posts.

Good Luck

Not too many differences. P series has electronic ignition. Starter mount is different, that can cause issues in some chassis. Crankshaft can be most any shape and size on either, just depends on the original use. Flywheel is different length from the block to the end. So some applications may need a driveshaft mod or change, JD 318 comes to mind.

If you haven't zeroed in on a specific engine, I recommend you contact this guy: http://boomersonanparts.com/.

He will have most anything Onan related, used, new, short blocks, completes, parts etc. Really knows the product and prices are reasonable. Have the info from your engine tag available when you call and he will know the exact specs as he has build info from Onan on how each engine was ordered by the end user.

Got a half dozen engines here that came from those skid loaders. Extra carbs too. Don't really know much about them...bought them from a friend that was a tech at a Case dealer. Said some were replaced under warranty. Have to see if I see some numbers on them.
