International 454 Hydraulic problem

I have an international 454 tractor that is fitted with a loader frame, when I lift something heavy I can hear the engine labour and bang it looses all hydraulics, looked into this and found it sheared the key way off on the main hydraulic pump drive gear replaced they key reassembled (ect) but tractor still has same issue, have checked relief valve, any ideas?

It sounds like you may have stripped the splines out of the
pressure plate cover where it drives the auxiliary shaft (this
shaft run both the PTO and the hydraulic pump). I believe
there is an inspection cover below the clutch housing, try
removing it and make sure the shaft is being turned by the
pressure plate cover. Sam

Hi, do as tractorsam says.
If you take the pin out of the foot clutch adjusting clevis then when you are looking up through the clutch inspection plate you can push the clutch release bearing and carrier to the rear to get a better
look at the pressure plate drive teeth and the PTO drive shaft as it is the outer shaft.

See attached photos,
1) 674-Clutch-Housing #1 is the clutch release bearing and carrier that can be pushed to the rear when the pin is pulled from clutch adjustment clevis, RED arrow is PTO shaft.
2) 674-Pressure-Plate #2 with RED circle shows the hub with the PTO drive teeth that become stripped.

You will have to split the tractor to repair, I suggest doing a complete clutch, pressure plate, clutch release bearing and pilot bearing replacement and since you have a loader on your 454 I would suggest
replacing the clutch with a clutch from a 674 or 684 with the 6 Pads on it.

Thanks guys, I have drive to the Hyd pump again what i meant was the hyd pump doesnt sound like it is relieving still and it is going to damage the pump drive gear again, is there a sure way to check the relief valve is working properly? Is there only one relief valve? Would this be the only cause of the hyd pump not Relieving? Or could it be something on the loader frame side?

Hi, there are relief valves on the MCV, see the photo below:
1) Bottom right plug/ System Relief Valve is for 3pt and remotes set to 2500 PSI, depending how your loader is connected this should be the relief valve that protects the pump.
2) Middle left plug/ Power steering relief valve set to 1500 PSI
3) Top center plug/ Oil Cooler bypass valve set to 250 to 275 PSI
4) Top right plug/ PTO clutch pressure valve set to 250 to 275 PSI.

Most loaders that have their own hydraulic valves mount on the loader frame also have an inbuild relief valve see photo #2 below with the RED circle around the valve body relief valve.
This cover will be under spring tension controlling the relief valve setting, typically this relief valve should be set to about 200 PSI less than the 2500 PSI on relief #1.
