1952 Farmall

Can anyone tell me what this tractor is by looking at it? I believe its a 1952 farmall super MD but I believe its missing the hydraulic pump? Its listed for $7500

We need to see it, but we sure can! It needs the exhaust on the right side, it needs the brakes to be disc style, it needs the battery under the seat. Jim

I you scroll down the forum menu you will come to site comments where you may ask to be able to post pictures. You can also post 4 more times. They are trying to keep scammers at bay.

It's a 53 serial number without a engine driven hydraulic pump. It has the hydraulics in the center section of tractor. Left side picture is to fuzzy to see if everything else looks correct for a stage 2 SMD built without the engine driven pump.

Just seen the picture better, looks correct, has the stage 2 center housing, starter and operating rods.

ok thank you all, very much helpful.. So what would be a reasonable price for this tractor? I like the Super M Diesels, but seems like they
are hard to come by restored. Should I just keep looking? what should i keep an eye out for and what seems to be problematic ? Ive also
noticed that the Super M tractors are nice.

Well if you just want a parade tractor, or a plow day tractor, for a ground lift plow, i would buy it,but it doesn't have the live Hyd, like everybody wants!

I sold 2 SMDs in last 12 months. Both were stage 2 and in excellent running condition with narrow fronts. One had very good original paint
and the other excellent new paint. Were sold at auctions about 6 months apart and each brought $3750. This was in Eastern Wisconsin.

Engine parts can be difficult to find and expensive, and many have cracked heads. Would not buy one unless I saw it start up and hear it
run.

Seems awful high priced to me. Depends what you are going to do with it, If you just want a looker, that's a good one, if you want something to use, you can get a lot newer, more user friendly tractor for that price. If you want it, offer $5500 or $6000 and see where it goes from there. Most people price them high planning to come down in price but hoping for a sucker that will pay it.

Diesel with an ignition coil and distributor??

The market is soft as we are fastly running out of buyers in this part of the country..Most of the collectors are all over age 60 and lots like me are in their 70's and 80's....The largest collector in my area has 120 tractors and he's 75....He isn't looking for any more tractors..

The real old and rare stuff still sells good...

Ok Im 21 and think its super fun to work on them and mess around and just drive them. Guess Ill keep looking, problem is I live in VA and would have to have something shipped. A 53 SMD stage 2 would be perfect. Guy said no to my offer @ $6000 and I would be paying $1200 to have it shipped from Alabama to VA on top of his $7500 asking price. Without even seeing it in person unless I fly out.

Form your brief video , the rear tires were cut for pulling , what I saw. They must be old and the hard rubber does not give .Cut from dry rot cracks .
I would look in radiator for any oil on the surface of coolant, if ther is that would bad. Test the clutch put in gear lock the brake and let out clutch slow
,that should stall engine at high ldle.
A tractor painted hides flaws such as engine block cracks. That why you need to look in radiator for oils.
The tractor is nice , but the Smd are priced ,if you need major parts cranks shafts, fuel injector parts . You need to take a mentor with you that know md
Before you put down any money ,good luck , look hard and long do not get in a rush .
Take another video and slow down , get close ups of engine block clutch and brakes pedals should have sharp diamonds if not used much ,if they worn
way down the tractor has been used a lot.. take a picture of draw bar if oval shape the it’s pulled pulled a lot and hard.
Check steering for backlash .or free play. If has a lot don’t run it highway gear or it can flip an inexperienced md driver
Good luck

400 gas throttle is on the right. This is similar, but is the fuel control (throttle) on this MD, the switch over lever is lower on the steering support. Jim

He said he would take $6000. I will make sure to check over the things that were listed. He sent a walk around video I will post. I see the diamonds you were talking about. I also asked for another video of running. Thanks a ton for all the info. Every bit helps.
