I have to 1936 "C" case tractors the paint on them is a faded red but all of the case pictures show them to be a dark gray. What is the correct color? When did Case go to the Flambeau red?
Thanks for the info

I think they went to flambeau in 1939 or '40, when they started converting the "C" series to the "D" series. I believe that the early D's were the first "stylized" with grills & rounded hoods. They had "flat bar" clutch handles & 3 speed transmissions. The 3 speed transmissions were in the first 500 or so D series built & I think they were the first to use the flambeau color. Not sure of the year, may have even early '41. Oliver/Hart-Parr, IH, JD & others began to "stylize" their tractors in 1939 (IH) & Case, which was often behind the the other tractor companies, did follow suit with the D series. I'm not sure what year.

I'm not sure what year. The R series came in both a grey & flambeau, but the C series did not come in flambeau. There were 2 different grey's, though.

Everything I have been able to read says that they were 'LC' grey from the factory. I have my Dad's 1937 C that he bought new, and it was definitely grey.

It was fairly common for people to repaint tractors with the then current colour for the manufacturer, so earlier Case tractors may have been painted flambeau red.
