New Holland hunting

I am replying to the post about the T4.90 sizing.

The 90HP is an odd size, and I think that is causing the dealers to have them for extended periods. That is the smallest HP for that frame size, which is the same up to the 120HP. They are all the same frame, the 120HP has a bigger engine. If I was starting my search, I would have upsized to the 110 or 120 HP, so that I could run what I want on it. The 90HP is big enough for 70% of what I want, but it will not work for the other 30%. If they are discounted enough, then the 90HP's will move, it will take a dealer that recognizes this and discount as such to move them.

The 75HP is the smaller frame size, and will not work for what I want.

My 6610 is just a really heavy built tractor and has spoiled me.

After driving several, I feel much better informed, and regardless of size, here are my requirements:

540/1000 RPM PTO
20 speed transmission, as I love the low/high (TA) powershift and power shuttle.
deluxe cab
665 loader, there are a lot of with 655's, which are barely sized to lift a heavy big round bale, my big bales are right around 2K.

I my humble opinion, bigger is better if you need it, but a bigger machine is often too big to maneuver into tight spaces. My T30 New Holland lacks some HP and traction but I would not trade it when I am able to get around through very tight spots. If you have not that problem, go big.

I have the McCormick CT47 for small work. My 6610 was perfect for bigger loader work and spoiled me. I want a cab and would like to have one tractor for the mid range. My neighbor has red 9s, 14s and 300 HP JD's for the really big work. I want to do more haywork as I move into retirement, the 90HP is just too small anymore.

Neighbor traded in his 5030 ford on a T4=100 paid $49000 for it. had 180hrs Nice tractor has deluxe everything Loader with extra hyd connections 4x4 cab with buddy seat etc.

Been reading your posts about searching for a new or almost new cab tractor. I'll give you my opinion.....The T4.90 with the 3.4 FPT engine will not come close to the power and performance of your 6610 with the 4.4 Ford engine. I would think you will need to go at least 20 hp. over the 6610 to do comparable work. These new tractors don't have near the guts (& weight) of the older machines and the 6610 was and is a real hoss of a tractor. I know your doing the homework....don't have buyers remorse.

None of my business, but I’ve read a fair amount of negative comments (and YouTube videos) regarding these T4 New Holland and their CaseIH counterparts and I like those tractors and the lower trim Workmasters. We had aand still have a Ford 3000 on this farm and I’d like to see a blue tractor return one of these days,

The cab tractor that peaks my interest in the 90-100ish hp range is the 4700 series Massey Ferguson, especially the 4710. On YouTube DLH Farms is Using one of these tractors and seems to be having good luck with it vs his NH tractors of the past. His big tractor is a JD, but the MF is used extensively for haying.

I set in one of these 4710’s at a dealer and was pleasantly surprised. They are now available with the Dana 4 transmissions. Originally the ones that were on the dealer lots around here were made in China, but more recently from Brazil. I think the Sisu Diesel engines are top shelf.

To get the 1000 PTO, I believe you have to step up to the 5700 series.

These global series MF’s are IMHO a good bang for the buck. The link below should take you to a PDF brochure.

Good luck!

I don’t know if you’re within striking distance to Rockport Indiana, but Rudolph Brothers carries McCormick tractors and IMHO are as honest as the day is long. They may have some left overs new. Ask for Nathan Rudolph. I bought my MF 1105 from them sight unseen. It has been everything they described. I would buy from them again in a heartbeat.

This is my new tractor. It has only 700 hours on it and is a 2012 model M100X. No DEF or regen system. 100 hp. Very nice hay tractor. It sits more like a row crop tractor than most of the kubota utility tractors.

David -- been reading your interesting tractor search posts. I understand your looking at a blue tractor to replace your 6610, but agree with JDdrawbar. You need a lot more horsepower with tractors like Kubota and Fiat built to do the same work as those heavy built 25 + year old tractors. I have a 6640 Powerstar with close to 10,000 hrs -it's about 25 years old and was the last tractor my Dad bought - still runs good. It is similar in horsepower to a Kubota that is gone now, but is much heavier built and did far more work. Before buying the John Deere which i like a lot, i checked out a 4.95 (?)New Holland. It had the same looking back end as a Case IH that is gone now too. I was kind of relieved when the salesman didn't follow through. It might be good to be color blind when looking for a replacement - that Massey looks interesting
