It appears I have been collecting the little bottles of two cycle oil for several years due to a disorganized shop that was hiding it. I have been dumping one of the little bottles in my 6610 with each fillup. I have to admit it does seem to run much smoother with the addition. The tractor has always had a little mid RPM lope, but this seems to take that away. This tractor has the inline Simms pump. I also dump one can of Seafoam in per year, which also seems to help.
 
I have tested it myself and saved an injection pump on an 8410t John Deere tractor the dealer insisted the injection pump needed replaced it would not idle smooth 2 gallon of 15w40 in 138 gallon of fuel and a couple days on the chisel plow and it was idling perfect still has the same pump and still idles perfect that was about 15 years ago now
 
I found that ATF works well in my 84 S15 4 cyl IZUZU diesel you could tell when the fuel with atf hit the injectors
 
I have never heard of this, but Im very interested. You are talking about adding a two cycle oil to diesel correct? Would this benefit my 3 cylinder Perkins?
 
I have been using Power Services grey bottle in my storage drums for years, adding when I fill the 55 gallon drums in my go-to town fuel trailer. This year I had to have a pump rebuilt, not that it wasn't due since that tractor has been trouble free for somewhere around 20 years (Ford 3000 CAV pump), but doing that brought it to my attention that I am using Ultra Low Sulphur farm Diesel now. Recalling years ago where I put 1 quart of ATF in a 100 gallon tank of diesel for UC/injector lube, I have started adding the same ratio ATF to my stored diesel along with the PS snake oil. I do notice a tad of blue smoke that I didn't have before but that's ok. I use Sea Foam off and on in engines around the farm.
 
Service manager at the CNH dealer, who knows the ford tractor line very well, having been around sales and service/repairs of them, recommended the Stanadyne Lubricity Formula fuel additive. He stated it is good for the metering pump on the 3 cyl 4630. I can't claim to be a petroleum engineer who would know if this is just snake oil or it's actually good, given ULSD fuel. No injector pump issues or other fuel issues so far, since I've been using it.
 
I was never a fan of snake oil.

I have had very good luck with the Seafoam in the gassers and Diesels. I dump in one can per 20 gallons of fuel about once a year and make sure that Seafoam is in any gas that sits over the winter. I also dump 1 oz of seafoam per quart of oil in the engines before oil change annually, run them an hour, sit overnight, run again and change oil.

I also did not believe that anything needed added to the low sulphur Diesel, but the 2 cycle oil does make them run smoother. I found this out while trying to get rid of the little bottles of oil. I think it does not take very much, just enough to aide lubrication. I now run the synthetic oil in my saws, but will probably get a pack of the cheapest 2 cycle oil once I have my old stock used up.

Life is a learning experience.
 


I add 2 oz. of two stroke oil per 5 gallons fuel for my old diesels. I am not going to try make anyone think that I can see any difference in how they run because I don't pull my injectors and weigh contaminants on them every 100 hours, and I don't have sensitive sound or vibration sensing equipment to tell how smoothly they run. I just do it because they took the sulfur out and because two stroke oil is formulated to burn.
 
The extensive test I read a few years ago said 1 OZ two cycle oil per gallon of diesel fuel was the best to aid lubrication and reduce wear on older injection systems. My 1999 F550 diesel definitely run quieter and smoother with the 2 cycle oil added to the fuel.
 
Yep, if I were to add some lubricant to the diesel in my tractor it would be a 2 stroke oil. Designed to burn pretty cleanly yet give enough lubrication for ball and needle bearings at over 10,000 RPM even at 50:1 ratio.

Despite lots of folks having good results with things like regular motor oil or ATF, I would not choose those.
