But did they actually pay for it?

Remember the show "Gas Monkey"?

They would put the cars they built on Ebay Autos, They would draw a lot of attention, and people would bid them up to insane amounts, then bail.

The final selling price was still ridiculous, but more believable.

I don't know what came of the winning bidder that never paid, maybe banned from Ebay, but I don't see them being prosecuted.

I was at a farm estate sale and one antique item (nothing special) was being bid up to a ridiculous amount like in the thousands for an item that at best was worth a few hundred.

Auctioneer finally stopped the auction to talk to the people.

Turned out a family member that was not present wanted the item for sentimental reasons at whatever the cost and due to a lack of communication several family members were bidding against each other trying to get it for her.

They got it all straightened out and restarted the bidding and it sold for a price in line with what it was worth.

If the 3020 is a gas model I can put you together a real set for the same money.Now don't plan on a 3020 gas pulling a 4 bottom plow. I can kind of see the high price as it is very rare and to someone with lots of money who maybe lives somewhere they can not have real tractors,or remembers getting that set for Christmas as a child. Look at some of the top prices on Mecum's Auctions for real tractors. There are still people who have more money than they know what to do with(I am not one of them).LOL If I bought it one of the grand kids would find it and rip the plastic off and start playing with them. I am guessing that the big money was paid (if it really was) because it is represented as coming from an Ertyl's personal collection

And prob a quality control regect snagged from the scrap bin.

I paid less than a third for a diesel powershift with new rear tires although alliance brand cheap junk But they hold air and deep tread near new front tires, converted to 12 volts and new injection pump . But your right someone might have wanted that can’t keep a real tractor .
