Fordson Tractors

There was a comment a few days ago about Ford C series trucks, and hauling two tractors. Here is a picture of the used Fordson tractors that Harve imported that year. It was the second year I worked for him and started my apprenticeship, as well as driving the Super Duty C-750, with beavertail bed. We leased, and sold them for pulling pea combines. I had done the steam cleaning, and sandblasting, and was learning to paint. The bed was eventually stretched to accommodate two 5000s. This truck had the super duty 332 engine originally. When I returned from the service in '68, a new truck had been built. A SD C-850 with 477 gas, and an air lifted loading ramp.

Where was this located? In those days, National Frozen Foods in Chehalis, Washington was using Majors to pull its pea combines. Wonder if they bought them from you?

Very intresting picture if it was taken in 1965 because the Super Majors finished production at the Dagenham factory in October 1964. MJ

Yes they did. I made many trips to Chehalis delivering and picking up tractors. Driving down old Hwy 99, watching I-5 being built, and then getting to use it. The mechanic that trained me, and I actually changed the clutch in one; out in a pea field, out toward Elma, using 2X12s and two floor jacks.

The latest one's he bought; He purchased new, and they rented them to British farmers, until they had enough hours to be considered used. Then he had them shipped to the US, I forget the needed hours, but he avoided a big import tax that way. We installed the Howard Rotovator gear box in them. That allowed keeping the pto rpm up, and the ground speed to a crawl. When the 5000 series came out, we did the same for our lease fleet, but did import new for customers, new 3000s also. I left the company the end of 1972, and went to work for one of the pea processors, as field maintenance foreman.
