Driving in the snow

Got a bit of video from yesterday's drive in the 52 Merc. Not a lot of snow yet so I got around ok without getting stuck. Its been parked almost two months so naturally the carburetor needed priming. The old six volt got it going ok.
The ground has been white all November but no need for the blade or snow blower yet.

Looks like the windshield may have prevented a couple of rocks from entering the passenger compartment over the years. Obviously, there are a lot of gravel roads in your part of the world! Enjoyed the ride-along.

(quoted from post at 12:34:17 11/28/20) Rusty,
is that photo taken w a drone?
If so, what make/model?

Fr. Bob
Autel X Star Premium drone photo. But don't buy one. This one is just 4 years old and Autel , or anybody else for that matter, does not supply a new battery. So in effect, I can throw the drone away when this battery is done. And its not far from it now. Maybe 8 minutes flight time from what used to be a 25 minute battery.

Yes, the Merc got a few stone chips in 68 years driving. On the positive side, theres not much traffic on gravel. No road salt either. And to be totally honest, the worst stone chips I've got were on two lane blacktop.

So.....that must be you between the house and the Merc?
You sure do take a lot of good pictures and videos....I enjoy them on YouTube as well as on here.
Thank you.

Hey Rusty -- its always a treat to ride along with You in the merc. .Loved it when we were riding under the back bumper --got some weeds in My face as I watched the suspension work -- I am working on restoring a 54 chevy -- should have it done by next summer---hope to show the YT-ers and go for a ride with Ya all---Roy

They rebuild batteries at battery stores like battery plus. I wonder if they could help you. Terrible product support.
Nice video again.

I will wait for somebody else to be the guinea pig on the battery rebuild before I spend any more money on it. Reading the forums it seems there is just no alternative but to scrap the drone. I don't want to alter anything too much as it may affect the controls or flyability of it. Better to put the money towards another new drone. (not an Autel this time).

Looking forward to seeing the Chevy Roy.

Rusty, at Batteries Plus in our area (Michigan) they replace the cells
in your existing battery case, so I would think the change would be
minimal as far as weight and flyability. But, I don't own a drone, so...

On the older vehicles, the windshield can become so pitted you can hardly see out of it. I buffed the windshield in my 1986 F-150 with polishing glaze and a wool bonnet at low speed on the buffer. The result was absolutely amazing. The windshield is now perfectly clear and almost looks like a new one. If interested, the complete procedure is available in a video at "Learn Auto Body and Paint". I was skeptical at first, but it worked as described and gave excellent results. I would never have believed you could buff scratches out of a windshield.

Sounds like something I need to check out. I've used fine steel wool on this windshield and it cleans it up really well but does not do anything for the pitting. Its pretty bad driving against the sun in the evenings.

I think you will be surprised with the results. I used Meguires ultra fine glazing compound and #3 setting on a 6 speed buffer. Brand new medium (yellow) wool buffing bonnet. You can actually feel the glass getting smoother thru the buffer.

They also have a procedure to restore head light lenses by wet sanding with 2000 paper and then buffing with same bonnet. Total cost is 1 sheet of sandpaper and 1 tbsp of glaze compound. Forget the $20 kit in the parts stores.

Normal detailing procedure is to use the foam pads first for buffing. Follow up with fine polish
and lambs wool pad.

Rusty. Isn't that flat glass on the Merc windshield. Very easy and inexpensive to have a glass shop cut you a pair. Ask for "safety sheet" glass. You want the two layers of glass with the vinyl in between. I used to work in a glass shop in HS. All my buddies with flat glass all the way around had beautiful cars with my glass "practice" price in them .

Its only flat in the middle. Curved at both ends. This would be an expensive windshield I'm sure. Not to mention the new moulding it would probably need. I searched that site on youtube but could not find any reference to polishing a windshield.

Go to Learnautobodyandpaint.com for the complete procedure. It may be shortened to labap.com
