1946 John Deere B clutch pivot bolt

Hello,

I managed to get the old clutch pivot bolt out, below is a picture of how far back in I got it. What is the trick to get this in all the way?

You may have started it in a bit out of line and raised a burr in the ID. Slide a round file through and see if you pick up a high spot. File a slight lead on the shoulder. Don't wail on it with the BFH.

Start over, take out bolt, clean out hole with file or drill bit.. Start bolt straight, then with large C-clamp and large nut at hole, draw bolt into place.. If need place in another large nut over the first, draw in until on and put on bolt nut , tighten....

Good advice on the "C" clamp and large nut. DO NOT hammer on that bolt. That ear can be broken off of the first reduction gear housing.

Well when doing them with the red. cover on the tractor I usually take the new bolt to the bench grinder and smooth off those knurls a bit. No way they need to fit that tight. Too risky to break an ear off the cover. It has a shoulder and a large nut to hold it tight.
