Cracked Exhaust Manifold

Have a Farmall H with cracked exhaust manifold. Still on tractor. Will JB weld work to fix or is there another product
that can be used..

Been there done that doesn’t work. Go to Napa they make a special putty that has worked for me but I don’t remember the name of it.

Check the price here on this site at the top of the forums.
I would just buy one before I would patch one on a tractor that gets used.
Manifolds expand and contract a bunch and JB would not last that long.

The only thing I have found to fix a cracked or broken exhaust manifold is replacement with a better one. Welding was hopeless and I didn't even try JB weld although I'll use it on almost anything. I've got one cracked and broken on a six cylinder IH truck that needs fixing too.

Some one tried to weld it before. Did a very poor job. Was hoping there would be something out there that would work.

Unless a very small crack JB weld would be a very short term solution. Plenty of used H parts out there including manifolds. Start checking Ebay among other online sources.

Too bad your not next door to Illinois, I got a pretty decent one I've been going to put on Craig's list.

Since I beleive we have established the route to go is replacement as other manifolds are readily available, therefore I will attempt to hijack this thread.....what is the purpose of the "cut" that bisects the bolt holes on Gab's pictured manifold?

Intake an exhaust expand at different rates so the cuts are there to make it so the manifold doesn't break it self apart. Intake area always runs cooler so the 2 have to have way to relieve stress

When you get done with all magic fixes , get out the torch and

the cast iron rod (cast iron in stick form )and the proper flux

and repair it properly.

No epoxy will stand the heat. A manifold is usually made out of junk metal so it's unlikely it could be nickel welded. The safest fix would be to braze it. Still even if you fix it I would be searching for a replacement.

That isn't a cut. It is the separation between the intake and exhaust manifolds. That is actually TWO manifolds attached to each other - the intake and the exhaust. On most inline engines, they can be separated and replaced individually.

Hey! I think that is my old manifold!. George fixed it for me something like 12 or 15 years ago. He did a great job and it worked fine and I was able to save the old Moline JTU.

Upper left hand corner of the screen you are looking at right now!!

You will spend more time and money trying to fix what you have than a new one costs. That is unless you have something that isn't available new.

Yes Kelvin ,it is your manifold . When it got here I had several

fellows that knew I fixed manifolds tell me that is no way to do it.

Famous last words.

Stephen,

Most manifolds are good cast iron . The only one that gave me any

trouble was one for an IH 444 , weld did not want to flow.
