McKee snowblower parts needed

Does anyone know if any parts are still available for a model 720 McKee Bros. snowblower? Im in need of the drive sprocket on the bottom auger and the small sprocket with the shear pin in it on the shaft that comes from the gearbox. If nothing else I can try a machine shop for the larger sprocket but the small one has a plate cast with it for a shear pin.

Any machine/welding shop with a lathe can pare down the worn sprockets to make the existing hubs fit "Weldasprockets", and weld the replacement sprockets to them, should not be real COSTLY or DRAMATIC, it's something they do every day.

My loftness snowblower has what sounds like the same setup sprocket with shear bolt I was able to get one from the dealer recently hopefully yours is the same size and a loftness one will fit I suspect other blowers may use the same one too.
Another option is to cut the worn old sprocket off and use a weld a hub sprocket to replace and weld it on lots of places sell weld a hub stuff

alank, I think the JD 270 snowblower was a re-badged Mckee 720. Memory is a terrible thing to lose. Try the JDarts website, with that model number and see if the drive looks like yours. Might interchange with your Mckee. Good Luck.

I believe the John Deere 250/260 blowers were very similar if not the same. I had the same issue on a 260 blower a few years back and found the part had dropped off the Deere catalog (not surprising for a 40 year old, outsourced machine). I found a sprocket to match (unusual teeth number if I recall) and had to mill out the inside bore in order to weld it to the existing shear hub. Probably worth investing in a new chain as well. It will be time well spent. Those are good blowers

I'm in need of a PTO shaft for a JD 270 (McKee). Anyone know of a potential source?

Welcome.

First off you would be better served in getting answers if you start your own post rather than tagging onto one that is two years old. This site has two views people can use. In Modern an old post moves to the top when it gets a new reply. In the classic view it doesn't move up so a lot of people who might have info may never see it.

Now if you are looking for the shaft to go between the tractor PTO and the blower gear box, you should be able to get one at most any farm store or farm equipment dealer. You need to know what the shaft on the blower requires for a yoke, (it looks like it maybe a straight bore yoke held on by a through bolt (you need to measure the diameter). The tractor end should be simple, as I am going to assume you have a tractor with a 540 rpm PTO which will use a regular 1-3/8"- 6 spline quick disconnect yoke. Hook the blower to your tractor and with it setting on the ground measure between the end of the tractor PTO shaft and the end of the blower's input shaft. With that info, and the HP of your tractor, you should be able to find a shaft local to you. You might have to buy one longer than you need and shorten it. The new shaft should come with instructions for doing that and the recommended overlap of the two halves of the slip shaft. If that is not the shaft you need, you need to better describe just what shaft you are looking for. You need to look for option of a shear connection or slip clutch on the shaft. Below is a link to the John Deere 270 parts catalog that may help you.
