John Deere dealer here was family owned when I was young. My dad worked there for 28 years and I did for about 5. Was sold to one of the mechanics, then to a larger company. Finally to Washington tractor that had, I believe, about 11 stores. Now resold to Pape. I was told that that company now owns all the John Deere stores on the West coast.

You kiddin me? A chain of John Deere mega dealers in IOWA owned by a doctor in Texas??????? Tell us more.

If I counted right it’s 31 locations in 4 states, but I also saw some language that called out locations in Montana that weren’t on the map.

That's too bad. I'm not a fan of Pape Equipment. It's a large regional corporation without much concern about the customer as an individual - in my opinion. The Spokane outlet has a high turnover in managers and sales personnel and the employees don't smile, they just trudge around like they're in a prison. They've chased me away from John Deere and I'll have to go to Idaho or Montana for my parts.

I've been going to Cope Equipment, three locations in NE Ohio. I was looking for parts online yesterday and when I tried to select a dealer...No Cope. It's now Agpro, 71 locations in nine states. Hope they'll bother with lil ole me when I need something.

Shaler ..... those damned medical professionals, go to school for 20 years but they should stick to saving our lives, not buying up JD dealerships. Sounds like there must be (or should be) some kind of a law against them doing that .... LOL !!!

One fiat dealer owns all the fiat cnh dealers in my area . Friend Of mine lost his job with fiat cnh when they closed down the dealership where he worked fiat said it didn’t meet their mega dealer specs anymore

I know the owner of Washington Tractor- he worked in a bank in my town, bought the local JD dealership first, then began buying up the others. Good guy, excellent to work with. I haven't seen him since they sold to Pape, but am wondering how much of that decision was voluntary, and how much came down from Mother Deere. His son, who was kind of the "district manager" for some of the stores, is still employed, as he lives across the road from me and is now driving a Pape pickup.

Straw Boss .... I forgot about those loans. Next time I go to the doc I am going to refuse service unless he is debt free. Do you think any farmers ever take out loans? Probably not, those $150,000 tractors are always paid for in cash ..... hopefully not mob money !!!
