Something so simple

Oil change day for three Farmall M tractors. The first two went really well. Get to tractor # three. Sit down on a bucket and put a wrench on the oil drain plug and it snaps off even with the bottom of the oil pan. Tomorrow I get to unscrew forty eleven thousand bolts to take the oil pan off and drill out the plug. Hope I don't ruin the gasket. Something so simple!!! Ellis

So, did it seize up coming out, or break with minimal force?

If it snapped clean with no resistance, you might be able to pick it out with a sharp punch, or tack a nut to the broken piece and screw it out.

Think about drilling in situ, preferably with a left-hand twist drill. I've done similar jobs with a hand-held drill motor, a small bench drill press with its head inverted, and with a carpenter's brace pushed by a 2x4 lever.

I agree with your approach.

Dropping the pan on those H's and M's is no big deal.

Something similar happened to me. The female threaded part twisted loose from the pan on my Sm. I had to remove the pan to braze the 'flange' back to the sheet metal pan.I had to hold the outer female part with a pipe wrench to get the plug out, before I brazed it back to the pan

If it's anything like my Oliver's the threaded part is brazed in and any welding or heating may cause more problems. I would probably try a drill and easy out first.
