Mecum Auctions has a rough looking MF 165 on the sale coming up. It's a gas, rear good tires. Pretty rusty, tin doesn't seem to be too banged up, seat is shot, I think the tach said about 3500 hours. Not really in the market for one, I'd prefer another Oliver, but this one looks like it might be cheap. If it runs, I might be silly enough to bid on it. I'd like a smaller tractor for tractor rides. Any thoughts??

Is it a Multi-Power ? They worked like a TA on a IH tractor, if you aren’t familiar with MF. Just one more thing to go wrong on a older tractor. Many were sold with just 8 speed , 4 hi range 4 low range, less to go wrong is my only point. The 165 MF tractors had a habit of jamming the shifter between gears. You can take the oil fill cap off in front of the shifter lever and knock the gears apart with a large screw driver or short bar. Naturally this information will be useless to you if you don’t buy the tractor, but helpful if you do. Bruce

The MF 'multiPower' may work like an IH TA,but it is not the same. The Mf will not 'hold back' in MP low. It will free wheel going down hills. A 65/165 would NOT be my choice for a tractor ride tractor.Another smaller Oliver might be a better choice. I have an old ugly beat up 1946 Oliver 60 that has 13.6x36 rear rubber. It just flies. has plenty of power, even on the steepest hills.I have taken it on several tractor rides. It will out run any H or M farmall. It is often the fastest tractor on the ride.
