SG Cab serial number

Does anyone know how to find the serial number on a SG cab other than the plate (which is missing) above the door? Thanks.

I'm wondering why you need the serial #. Weren't they all the same? Oh, maybe you need to order door latch parts. I do think there was a difference. But I think they only changed them for model changes in
tractor. If parts supplier knows what model tractor you have he should be able to know what parts you need.
P.S. they all have the socp.

Some of The glass is different in later models, and heavier tractors will have a heavier substructure.

It does matter on door latches, wiper motors, interior lights, cab kits, seats, some glass, etc., mostly the cosmetic things. JD dealer told me he didn't know of any other location for the serial number and I've never seen one but thought someone else might. Thanks for all the input.

Would the radio, air conditioner components, gauges or electric components have date codes, part numbers or serial numbers that can give clues to the age or model number of the cab? The maximum weight rating of the ROPS (Roll Over Protection Structure?) might give a clue to the size of tractor it was on.

It's a good thought. I'll have to check maybe something would indicate that. I know the year of the tractor and so forth but there is a different serial number range on the cabs that doesn't coincide with the tractor serial number which is strange. Thnx.

What cab parts are you interested in? I'll try to help decipher the JD parts site.

Thank you Jim. That is what I have already been doing and it works pretty well. There are always a few things that cross over despite serial number breaks. I was just looking for the possibility of another number location. Working through the parts manual to make sure it is correct just takes a lot of time and a exchange of a few parts. Take care and thank you again for your help.

Tractor manufacturers just weren't as concerned about theft as car manufacturers were. You got one place for the serial number, and that's it.

Not nearly as many people looking to steal a 1968 John Deere 4020 as a 1968 Dodge Charger, even in 1968.
